    2006 Audi A4 PCV p0507 p0171 Fix

I thought I'd post some information on the PCV / Crankcase valve that I've learned. All of a sudden my 2006 Audi A4 B7 2.0TFSI started revving to 1200-1300 Rpms.
I didn't not have a check engine light but decided to check the codes / vacuum. Sure enough there was a pending p0507 (Idle past threshold) and then a few minutes later a p0171 (system too lean bank 1).

The odd thing was it would only idle high once the engine warmed up. Everyone was saying check all the hoses, pcv valve, oil cap, etc. I did notice the oil cap was super hard to take off. Finally I put on a new pcv valve and problem solved! Took about 10 minutes with a torx screwdriver, pliers, and a flat head to remove hoses.

I was wondering what exactly was broken in the valve. Blowing into the valve would shut off air flow, so I thought it was working. That just cuts off psi from entering the crankcase from the pressurize intake (turbo building pressure). Little did I know it was leaking from the other side of the valve. You can very easily take off the round top with a flat head screw driver and verify if the rubber is fully intact. Mine was torn in two different locations.

My old valve was a 06F129101N and the newest revision from Audi was a 06F129101R. The newest revision replaces all of these 06F129101L, 06F129101C, 06F129101N, 06F129101F, 06F129101K. Looking at the date code on the top it was stamped 23411 (234th day of 2011). This means the part has about 5 years of service. So I'd highly recommend replacing every 5 years as a maintenance item. Heck you could just switch out the diaphragm or duct tape the cracks to get home with nothing but a flat head screw driver.

    Hope this helps someone!

Haha perhaps! I mention the diaphragm swap or duct tape to get you out of a jam. Not sure how much damage that little air could do but I wouldn't want to find out! It would randomly shoot up to 2k Rpms at idle, cant be good.

Good info. I just got mine replaced this weekend. I had my 105K done on last wednesday and then I got the CEL on that friday. Checked the code in the VAGScanner and Lean on Bank 1.
I took it back on NGP on Saturday and they identified the same issue with the PCV valve. They ordered one from a local dealer and had it installed for me within an hour.

What year was the car and was it the original PCV? Were you getting the high idle as well? Thanks

Good info/reminder... I got my B7 this last summer and I was fortunate enough to track down the service records and sure enough mine had a PCV update done on TSB after it was a few years old at 36k and I just turned 100k so I'll have it done along with plugs and coils as part of a 100k tuneup.

Good idea, cheap part to put your mind at ease. Wish I would have known about it before all the last minute running around and worrying it was a bigger issue! Just double check the part with your vin, since I read the late 2006 models have a different version.

Exactly, mine has the "newer"style so I might be fine, but it's also only like $100 for the part so might as well just replace it like every 60k...

Hey man, I had the same problems:

Mode 03: Emission related fault codes

    Address 7E8: 2 Faults Found:
P0507 - Idle Control System RPM: Higher than Expected.
P0171 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1: System Too Lean

After a month of searching around I stumbled across this and I forgot I swapped PCV valve off my old engine because I thought it was a newer part. Swapped the original pcv valve back on the new engine and the car now runs great!

short story: these PCV valves are all junk. The only sure bet is to buy a VW-Audi one.
