best oil you can get is Liqui Molly synthetic SAE 5W-30 or 40 depending on how cold it gets where you live. (40 for colder places, 30 for warmer places) regardless I'd run 30 in the summer

Castrol is good, but it's American made, so not the best for euro cars, I have an oil change regulator which tells me the exact mileage that a new oil change is needed on, I got 3k more mileage off of the oil from the Liqui Molly than the next closest.

Any oil that meets or exceeds VW 504/507 standard is recommended. Castol is the recommended factory brand. You cannot go wrong with it. Just make sure is meets the VW/Audi standard. Here's the Audi Technical Bulletin Audi/VW Oil Standards and approved oils.
Current: 2016 S5 in Sepang Blue with Technik Package.

As long as it's certified by VW 502 00, I used mobil 1 0w40 and never had a problem.

If you are going with US Spec oils you're almost guaranteed to need a 0w40 or 5w40 as the 30 weight oils in US formulations are few that meet VW502.

There is no evidence your engine will last longer by purchasing a 9 dollar per quart vw502 oil versus a 4 dollar per quart vw502
    oil.

I use Mobil1 0-40w year round on all my vehicles (Touaregs and RS5). I don't scrimp in summer.

Oil changes are twice a year irrespective of mileage due to huge temp variations and condensation in the crankcase. Spring and Fall I order 26 quarts (6.5 gals.) for the three vehicles from Wallyworld.

Oil is drained the old fashioned way via the drain plug and not sucked out. Plug is checked for metal filings or other crap.

Came to a conclusion to get the 0-40 castrol edge, was one of the oils that was on the list.

Amsoil is very good oil also, they have a 0w40 European car formula that meets the 502.00 specifications.

Great oil. I've been using the European formula in mine.

Huge 2nd. Long time user of 0W40 M1, and I've never had any issues. With my '09 S5, I never had carbon issues, all the way to 73K when I sold it for my '15.

As long as we're comparing oils I've been using Rotella T6 with zero complaints.

    Oil change question? B8.5 s5

I've always been a Mobil 1 synthetic guy in all my performance & V8 cars. I've used their Euro formula 0w40 in all my German cars. I currently use it in my B8 S5 with zero problems, in fact I don't even burn any oil with 88k on the dial, amazing being it's a 4.2 V8. I may need to add the "tiniest" bit when I get close to the 5k change mark but only sometimes. That's just because I'm OCD and like the dip stick to always be at the same level.

I also ran it in my 2001 B5 S4 I used as a spare car 2 years ago. Which when I sold it had 210k on ORIGINAL K03 turbos to my knowledge. Let that sink in! Car was mint for the mileage, wish I just kept it, made a great grocery getter.

It's 502 spec Audi or whatever. And you can always get a 5 gallon jug on sale at Walmart for like $24. Helpful since the B8 S5 takes like 9.5 quarts! Helps in PA as well when it gets in the single digits temp wise.

Same here---- Mobil 1 0/40 European Formula. I get it from Wal Mart too. It's a 5 QUART bottle though 😉.
My old Mk 1 TT has 150000 miles on it with this oil and burns zero between changes. I replaced the valve cover gasket last year and it is as clean and sludge free inside as a new engine.
