    RS5 quarter mile results

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Took the car out for the first time today.. on not so great tires in not so great temps these were the results:

Sorry for crappy photo quality phone cam is not in great shape either. I was car 68 and on the 13.1 run couldnt get launch control to engage for the life of me. Seems if you test it out prior to actually using it it wont work. So I learned to just line up and go.

Mods are eventuri intake and milltek non res catback. Temp was about 67f not sure what DA that equated to for tonight.

My conclusion is that with lower temps and better tires the car has a 12.2 in it. I didnt try manual mode but the 1st to 2nd shift seems to have a little hang up as well. I think with a proper dp/exhaust setup and tune this car can definitely crack 11s with just bolt ons and trap in the neighborhood of 115-116.

JHM eagerly awaiting you guys entry to the segment!

I thought I read somewhere that millek exhaust for the RS5 has smaller diameter piping than stock so that could be hurting you too?

I dont believe its smaller than stock probably about the same but not sure. I dont believe it is helping at all though other than in the sound dept. This car really needs a proper 2.75 dp or header + exhaust setup to see real gains. In my experience the 4.2 engine that will be enough to pick up an addtional 3-4 mph. That coupled with better tires and Temps and this car can definitely get into the 11s

Turns out iirc it is smaller at 2.37" diameter, why the hell would they do that??

Because they know nothing about performance. Even still with the times i managed i dont think it is hurting it is a free-er flowing catback exhaust. I don't even think a 2.75 exhaust exists for our car can someone chime in on that?

I've done the exact same...12.45 with similar mods.

The car does have 12.2 in it if you can stick the launch and nail the shifts. Thanks for the post

I took my buddy's RS5 to Atco a while ago and ran a 12.50. He has a catback AWE exhaust (no downpipes) for sound. That was with like 28K miles and no carbon clean or fuel injectors servicing. The car was full of his personal stuff except for the five gallon container of gas that I took out of the back. He also has Conti DWS tires too in 275/30/20 on stock wheels.

I seriously see potential in the RS5. First make sure that the maintenance is up to date because they are hateful on maintenance almost to the point of the old C5 RS6 and a carbon clean plus fuel injectors servicing would go a long way. Gut the stock cats, install a header back dual 2.75 inch exhaust with a x-pipe, flash a JHM ECU tune on it, and it would be a high 11 second car. Some lightweight brake rotors and lightweight 18 inch wheels with 255/40/18 tires would help out a lot because the factory 20 inch wheels make great boat anchors, lol!

Cool to see my times are pretty consistent with what the few other examples have produced. Considering the quarter mile record on RS4s was set by a non carbon cleaned car im not in a rush to have mines done although I did have my RS4 cleaned at about 75k so when i get to around that mark perhaps. I just want to get a set of wheels/tires and wait on a better dp/exhaust setup and ill probably be done as far as power mods go.

Until JHM releases that blower that is..

This threads pretty old, but I ran a 12.68 using launch control with JHM's 2.75" setup @ 109.6 MPH. We're at 1320 feet above sea level, so that's a pretty decent time!

Next up are lightweight wheels, I'm curious to see if there's a difference in my 0-60 and 1/4 mile time.

JHM said they ran a 12.1 on their 91 octane tune with factory air box and their 2.75" exhaust. My gut says with 93 octane and stage 2 they'll run an 11.7.

Hey Jay - I presume this is you: https://youtu.be/LYbgHybM8C8

Question - how did you do that launch control? It seems you’re in manual/paddles mode, and the RPMS lifted to 5500, but then it looks like they shot up to 7000 for your launch? What RPM did it launch at?

PS the exhaust with the Velocity pops tune sounds pretty crazy!

that was not launch control and I don't believe it was intended to be. It does sound great though

I've heard people mention that a few times regarding higher rpm launches. So an above 5500 RPM 'launch' is not 'launch control'? What is it then and what's the difference (serious question)?

Yep, that’s me. Only thing I can think of is car wasn’t at operating temp. Waited about 2 hours to get on track 🤦🏻*♂️ car was intermittently on/off to move up in line

Curious how you were able to launch like that? Apparently that’s not the official launch control since you launched over 5500 RPM, just curious the process you used?

Car was in manual mode, traction control all the way OFF (held button down a few seconds), Dynamic Mode, brake depressed all the way, steering wheel straight, gas pedal depressed. That’s it

Any idea why it launched at 7000 RPM instead of 5500?

Basically, I'm not seeing a rhyme or reason as to why it chooses to launch at 5500 normally (which is proper launch control) and higher RPM's other times. Perhaps with the Velocity tune you can adjust what RPM range it launches at?

Any idea why it launched at 7000 RPM instead of 5500?

Basically, I'm not seeing a rhyme or reason as to why it chooses to launch at 5500 normally (which is proper launch control) and higher RPM's other times. Perhaps with the Velocity tune you can adjust what RPM range it launches at?
I don’t think it’s the tune. It was also my first time launching it and at the drag strip. I was shocked at the time because I thought LC was locked at 5500 rpms. Car ran fine after with no codes whatsoever. I guess I’ll try LC again soon

I beleive for "proper" launch control the transmission needs to be in "S" mode, along with these other characteristics:

    -Drive select in dynamic mode
    -transmission in S
-traction control off (just pressing the button once will work, I'm unsure if fully off causes it to not work)
    -steering wheel straight
-mash both the brake and throttle
-once you release the brake the car will go.

Note that this launch control mode should firm/speed up the shifts to be extra fast compared to regular driving, or other drive modes. So the car will be fastest with these criteria, and the transmission in S.

When you're in manual mode you're fully in control of the car, although unfortunately that means you don't get the extra fast shifts like you do in "launch" or the official term, A-max mode. So this will allow you to 'launch' at whatever rpm you want, however that does not necessarily mean you'll be faster than the proper A-max mode.

Also note that these dual clutch transmissions limit you to 200 launches for the lifetime of the vehicle, and it won't let you launch if 1. you've launch too recently (a time based metric), 2. the transmission temperature is too high, or 3. you have exceeded the 200 launches (note that what the car considers a launch is rather liberal, so you may be surprised how many launches you actually have on the car. This can be checked with vcds). These are all parameters you are able to change with a transmission tune, as well as the A-max launch rpm.
