Exactly. I was going to register my 90 BMW 325is as a collector/antique car but because it has a different driveline/suspension/brakes than what came with the car originally it falls into their modified category. I still have agreed upon value for it but you have to fill out a sheet listing the modifications and the estimated value of each of them so that the underwriters can determine what type of risk the company is assuming should your car be deemed a total loss. Costs me about $1100/yr
I also have a 73 MGB roadster that is completely stock and insured with Hagerty under the Antique car policy. Also agreed upon value but my premium is much lower because it is a stock car versus a modified one. Costs me $275/yr
In both instances the mileage is set at 5k a year, although I don't think I even get close to that. However, there isn't like a mileage check or anything like that either so in reality it is pretty irrelevant.
Currently, the S4 has full coverage from NJ Manufacturers, which supplies insurance to all NJ government employees and their families (my father works for Rutgers so he qualifies as a state employee, and I can qualify as an immediate relative even though I'm private sector). NJM is honestly some of the best insurance around, I've never had any issues despite many tickets when I was younger and 4 accidents over 15 years of driving (one my fault, one no fault, two the other drivers' fault). My rates have remained fairly stable and tend to rise with inflation if anything each year. Eventually I'll get the S4 on Hagerty's modified car coverage, but can't until I find a DD to replace my totaled BMW 530i (December accident, women blew through a stop sign, the week before Christmas, merry merry Christmas!)
