Seems to be lots of information on aftermarket parking sensor retrofits (And even more mis-information) but haven't found much on retrofitting rear OEM parking sensors on a B7?
The previous owner of my car used the rear bumper as a parking sensor, had planned to have the bumper repainted but my body shop advised that the bumper had been dinged up so many times that it wasn't really worth spending the money to have it repaired and repainted.
I managed to find a rear bumper for a great deal that's in great shape but it is from a B7 S4 with parking sensors. I'd rather not have the parking sensor circles in the bumper as it's not as clean looking imho but I figure if I can retrofit the sensors, it may be worth settling for the aesthetic loss.
I originally (incorrectly) assumed that the sensor system would be linked in through the factory RNSe head unit/Can-bus/speakers however in doing more research, it appears as though the parking sensor system is nearly a stand-alone system? From what I have found, there are the four sensors, the harness, a control module and then a dedicated speaker for the proximity alert. Only question would be where the system draws its power from? Does it plug into a connector somewhere in the rear?
I'd appreciate it if anyone could shed more light on this. Has anyone attempted the retrofit? @Axis has mention of this in his retrofit thread but no further info.
Thanks for any help!
