    Getting SKC Pin

Hey guys so my old cluster to a sh** and will not communicate with VAG COM or any other software. Anyway I have another cluster that works perfectly and so I am wondering what's the best way to get the SKC pin from the old cluster so I can get the immobilizer off so I can get my car running again?

I can't remember exactly if this procedure pulls the same pin for the cluster as for the ECU (I think so, but could be wrong) but I did get my pin for both my 2001 allroads and was able to use it to pair more keys including programming the IMMO. Someone more knowledgeable can chime in if they are same or different. But this AW post shows how to pull the pin using ArgDub's me7 95040 eeprom tool to dump the EPROM and then use a Hex editor to get the 4 digit pin from that dump. You need a windows laptop and at least VCDS lite. I have a full VCDS Hex-Can USB cable and was able to easily complete the task. Hopefully it's ok to link to an AW thread.

So is the cluster functional or not does it light up showing info or it's bricked?
If it doesn't power on it will be very hard to extract SKC.
If that's not the case, you'll need KKL cable and VAG commander to extract it, pretty easy to do.

So it powers on with just the immobilizer light and the epc light on but the displays don't work

That's fine, as long as it powers on you should be fine. Just check connection on the cluster and wiring if it got damage somehow.
If you have generic diagnostic cable (cheap eBay one) you can search and download VAG commander V 1.4 and run it on XP, go to instrument cluster option hit ECU reset and after it cycles hit read, wait more until it cycles again and that could take a minute, SKC will be four digit code under mileage which will be displayed in kilometers. You'll need to add 0 before that 4 digit code.
If you get code 1952 (I think or something like that) and if the mileage doesn't reflect your original mileage on kilometers it didn't work.
Try clearing codes if you have any and do it again.

He didn't mention that he can't connect to that cluster using a Hex-Can cable. I think the cluster is bricked, as-in, no talky/no way.

He needs to get the SKC from the ECU, but for some reason the usual methods aren't working. Can't even read eeprom using Nefmoto. I use Vageeprom to read the SKC on almost anything older than 2008' but, even that isn't working for him.

Hmm.... So only solution for him would be to swap ECU's.

Well....he has a replacement cluster. Just needs the SKC from his ECU in order to adapt it. But for some reason, can't read the eeprom from the ECU over OBD to decode the SKC.
Getting the SKC form his new/used cluster is easy...but having a problem getting the one he has off his ECU.
