    S6 Battery Replacement?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wondering if anyone has been through this process themselves on C7 S6. Don't currently drive the car much but the battery seems to be on the fritz. It's covered under warranty but I'm not sure if I want to risk a TD1 for something that should be simple to replace (at least on a normal car). Just wondering if anyone has replaced theirs with an aftermarket? Also it looks like I need to code in the replacement with vagcom, just wondering how difficult that is. Thanks for anyone who can help!

Bump - think I will need to change my battery soon as well. Are the A6 instructions same as S6? I've read through the battery coding - but anyone know if Costco sells an equivalent battery? Their interstate car battery website is very confusing (requires an option code).

I replaced mine with oem, took about 15 minutes in total. Coding help in available online and is very straightforward.

Make sure you get an OE battery, easy replacement takes maybe 20-30 mins, look up the diy on youtube

Why does it need to be an OE battery?

For the vagcom coding, otherwise you can potentially have issues down the road. But I mean its your car so you can do whatever you want

You can still code an aftermarket battery with vagcom

It does not need to be OEM, only OEM equivalent.

To add to this thread, there are several different batteries out there that are compatible with the C7 platform that have a higher cold cranking amp than the OEM battery, and more importantly, a significantly longer reserve time.

As wwhan mentioned above, many of the size 'group 49' batteries are compatible with our cars. Sears Diehard group 49 batteries are also compatible with the S6.

So my bloody battery is going out and I am seriously debating going non OEM and changing it out myself. How does the coding work if it is non-OEM?

I will probably follow up with the stealership because I could swear I had them change out the battery before delivery last year so it should be under some sort of warranty.

It's simply a matter of changing the last digit in the battery code to something different than the current one so the system knows it's a different battery. It won't alter any regulatory functions or performance of the battery

I had mine replaced under warranty. Specifically asked them not to hookup to scan tools, and they did not. Said typically they do but did not in my case as battery seemed totally dead

My indy is getting ready to swap mine. $200 for the battery and coding. They recommend "Interstate", so works for me.

    Awesome thanks.

Come to find out I have an unlimited warranty on my battery so they will be swapping out out on their dime. I hope they don't TD1 me since I'm going to a different (AutoNation) dealer than my standard one.

Answered my own question. Braile battery installed with no coding needed. And works fine. All in saves 50+ lbs.
