    Secondary Cabin Air Filter Install

For those interested in a secondary filter solution, I found the part on AliExpress for $10 shipped. I had to shave a hair off the plastic tabs, but otherwise, the install was simple and fitment is good.

Last two pics are of it installed. The filter frame clips onto the housing and replaces the grill.

Not bad for $10. When I first bought my car I noticed that there was something 'missing' under that grille. I searched and searched and finally found a thread on the subject.
It appears that it's only for high smog areas and that's why we don't get a filter in North America. Not sure how true that is tho.
For anyone who wants the OEM part, I've had this bookmarked for about a year now lol https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...le/8kd819441a/

That looks like a clogged filter waiting to happen.

That's quite the markup for the OEM part.

I cut the foot off of my wife's nylons and wrapped the lid with it. While it doesn't filter the small particles it captures quite a bit of leaf particles and "fuzzies" . I suppose if you lived in China where these filters come from you might want double filters for all of the smog.

Or you can just put it on recirculate and avoid the entire process.

Based on the junk that gets in there I see the point. Also living in the desert south west were it is super dusty I see the value. I leave mine in circulate "ALWAYS" because of that. But keeping junk out of the fan makes sense as well. K&N has a pre filter that you can put on the filters to keep rain and extra dirt out, perhaps something like that might work as well.

concern I would think is that there is a posibility with a wet filter chunks ending up in the car. I just wrapped mine in pantyhose and called it a day.

Installed one today. Just search eBay for 8KD819441 and you will have a bunch of options under $10. I do not see the harm or how water would end up in the filter to cause concern about it falling apart.

    Thanks for the suggestion OP.
