Only One Front Brake Pad Has Sensor, L/S Inner Metal To Metal & No Light??

On a '14 TDI the new OEM Audi front pads have only one pad that has a wear sensor...why bother?? They ASSume that the L/F inner pad wears down first so they only put it on one pad?? My GM truck has it on all 4's & almost every other car that I have owned had them too. The L/F inner pad is metal to metal and there is NO light on...that's not good. I'll look tomorrow and see why the light never came on

Both drivers side, front and rear inner pads have a wear sensor. It's a loop of wire held in a piece of plastic. The wire wears away when the inner pad has around 3mm remaining. The outer pads can be checked by looking at them.

The ACC uses the rear pads to slow down and my rears wore out first. Here's a shot of my rear inner pad.

In a sealed box of 4G0698151D pads there is only one with the sensor wire connected. The other front pad has the plastic piece sticking out and 2 metal contacts in it but no wire going down the plastic into the pad. When I Google it there are many results saying that only the inner left has a sensor. I just think it sucks on such a high end car, also the pad is metal to metal and no light has come on. Maybe I'll have the dealer check another box. Just looked at the rears, in a sealed box of 4G0698451A only one wire comes in the box. The wire is loose and not connected to a pad, 2 pads look like they could take the wire so you have to see which side on the car has the sensor before installing.

On the drivers side rear caliper, the wear sensor is threaded through the caliper then attached to the inner pad. The electrical connector is too large to pass through the caliper slot.

I think the assumption is not that the left wears first but that both front right and left wear evenly therefore to put a sensor on both wheels is redundant… And cheap… LOL

The point was that there is only one pad with a sensor per pair, not 2. The key word there is CHEAP, not good on a gazillion dollar car. My '06 A6 Avant and "06 A4 Q has/had them on all 4's. Also there is a 1" patch of metal to metal on that front L/S inner pad but no light. Anyone know who makes Audi rotors and pads? My dealer matched Audi Wholesale Parts but it still came to $880. for 4 rotors and pads....yikes. Someone told me that you can get the same parts made by the OEM supplier for a lot less. I never trusted the aftermarket parts because they have different levels of quality that still meet the spec. but are still not at the level of the ones the dealer sells. Many times the parts get updated and/or superseded and the aftermarket ones don't. The online parts sites sell you whatever they have left in stock, even if it's an older part number.
