    Engine swap 8V a3/s3 w/ RS3 engine?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there even a remote possibility that one might be able to swap in the rs3 motor into an a3/s3?

Obviously with in reason...as pretty much anything can be accomplished with enough money.

The rs3 is built on the same chasis and still uses haldex, so I would assume the drivetrain doesn't change much?

    Again, just thinking outloud.

From everything I have read, the engine yes. Audi has said that the engine they developed if modified further would not fit in the vehicle. Seeing that the engine compartment of the vehicle should be the same as the A3 and S3 I see no reason why it would not fit.

The real question is matting a transmission and electronics, Quattro and such.

I figured the electronics would be the biggest hurdle.

Lol...obviously...but it's just such a better platform to start from as a base.

It should plop right in and mate up to the mounts, tranny and chassis. The only issue would be electronics/harness/computer/dashboard etc.

The engine alone is about $12K used if you can find one overseas.

I figure about $20K all in parts and labor = not worth it, just buy the real thing from the get go.

Right now maybe. However, when it hits US soil and people start wrecking them the price may come down.

However 8k just to have it installed and running correctly is steep, for sure.

It's a different motor for the 18 RS3 and TTRS. Aluminum and 60lbs lighter plus different internals

You also basically make your car worthless at resale when you do that, except maybe to a tiny handful of people. Just get a real RS3 once they come up used in a few years. :)

I don't buy cars for resale....so that is no concern.

I dont think it will fit - I think the front end was widened to help facilitate the engine length.

Unless frame rails moved over. Which is unlikely, it should fit...it is based on the same platform.

just get a stage2 tune and you'll be faster than a rs3, if you need even more, stage3. unless you must have that 5-pot sound? might as well buy a rs3 instead then.

I agree...it was more of a general question. As if you start with a better power foundation and do similar mods, you end up further ahead. However it appears that the cost just doesn't make sense.

it is a gem of an engine. probably still need stage3 to get one in the 10s though, I think that's what it took for the previous TTRS.
