    Oil Brand/Viscosity in a New Q5 3.0T

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Getting to know my new Q5 3.0T and was messing around with the MMI to check my oil level. I noticed it was a little under the Max level and was thinking about adding a little oil. The manual identifies Castrol Edge Professional as an option, or an oil which meets the VW 502 00 standard. I was wondering what brand oil and viscosity does Audi use when the vehicle is manufactured. I could not find that specific information in the owners manual. Can I buy any oil which meets the VW 502 00 standard or should I try to match what is currently in the vehicle?
    Thanks

Look on the oil cap, it's castrol edge.

You can use any oil you like, i would recommend to stick to the vw standard though. Lots of guys use Motul or Liqui Molly.

Thanks 14. I've seen the link below for the dipstick for a Q5/SQ5 3.0T. It says it is a Genuine dipstick from Audi, but I was wondering if Audi makes an all metal dipstick. The one in the link below looks to have a plastic level reader attached to a metal stick. I was planning to leave the dipstick in all the time and was a little concerned with that piece of plastic; could it possibly work its way off the metal stick after being exposed to the hot engine oil environment for a long period of time. I may just be paranoid.

The link i just posted is an ecs metal version. Others have had your concern about the plastic dipstick too. I went with the metal too, it gets hot as hell so be careful grabbing it.

I've had both plastic and metal and can vouch they are the exact same length too.

Holy shit! The R8 uses something weird, like 10W60, that has to be special ordered and is very expensive. WTF?

One of those things they don't tell you about before you buy it. . .not that it would have stopped me.

Far be it from me to lack something to bitch about.

However, I don't think any one-percenters concern themselves with oil changes.

How often do you get the oil analysis performed? I'm new to all this, what are some of the specifics that the analysis will tell you about the condition of your engine. Thanks

Theres plenty of oil analysis on here, search Blackstone and you'll probably have quite a few of the sheets to look at.

Yup, as @14S4GWM mentioned, there should be plenty of references out there. You can start with the Blackstone website: Blackstone Standard Analysis. The basic premise is that it's a good way to get an idea of the condition of your engine by analyzing the contents and condition of your oil. My first report is here.
