Cheap fix for faded brake caliper decal....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So the RS decal was faded on 3 of my brake calipers, yes I saw the replacement pieces for the rear brakes for $80, but I've spent enough dough on this car before I even make the first payment. So I used a metallic Sharpie. Since I was in the process of coating the rims & calipers, I painted the logo with the Sharpie, then wet coated it twice with Gtechniq C5. Honestly up close you can see my imperfections but that's within inches. From standing distance or a foot away it looks great. If @ some point it fails I'll spring for the replacement parts but for now I'm good with it.

Are you saying that the 2nd pic on the right is the finished result of your sharpie work on the SAME caliper?

It seems to me that the pics are not from the same caliper with the same decal. The letters look completely different.

Yes, the pics are from the same caliper, only difference... the pic of the faded one was taken when I first got the car.

Here's a pic of the passenger side front caliper. I fixed this one with the Sharpie too!

Side note: The Caliper, spindle & dust shield are coated with C5, with what I've coined as a "wet coat". Which means I applied the C5 as smoothly as possible and left it to dry. You're supposed to apply it then wipe it off. The dust shield is supposed to be matte or satin (at least mine was) but you see here it's glossy after the "wet coat". The C5 dries rock hard, so the point wasn't to make it glossy it's to make a new thick, hard impenetrable layer.

Any concerns about the sharpie holding up with heat?

Cool. I just got some C5 for my wheels, will try this on the calipers and let dry.

It's coated with C5 wheel armor. No concerns
