Sure it works for you and your damn Pasadena weather ;-)

I'm jealous. I would be more than happy to give up my all season tires and driving in the snow and only need quattro for driving in the rain.....

I will probably be retiring soon and i'm definately considering moving to a warmer climate. But you have too many fires out your way. Maybe move to the Charleston area where I only have to deal with hurricanes....

Not sure if it's ok to wake this oldish thread, but I'm gonna. I just changed my diff and tranny fluid to the Fuchs Titan Sintopoid 75W-90. It's a gl4/gl5 rated oil. I have a 2003 a4 5 speed quattro 01A. 136k miles. I only got 2 quarts of nasty oil when I drained my transmission! Was about a quart low. Now shifting is very much improved, much smoother, and I can put it into first gear when going 5 or 6mph now when I couldn't before. My 2nd gear crunch is gone once the fluid warms up too. But that's my complaint. Right now it's only getting down the 40s and 50s at night, and until the fluid warms up after a few minutes of driving my 2nd gear is crunchy and I have to be about stopped to put it into 1st. I don't know whether to wait it out if it will get better as I just did the fluid two days ago, or to switch to the ravenol 75w-80 since it's closer to OEM fluid, and especially in the winter in New England, this fluid now is most likely gonna be super stiff if even now with 40 degree temps it needs to warm up. I might run the Fuchs for another month or two, and if it still feels the same I'll switch to ravenol, when I know I'll be happy with.

So between that and the recommendation from Old Guy, I bought 4 bottles. I have an 02X 6 speed, so slightly larger quantity needed than the 5 speed.

I had been running Redline 75W90 MTL for about 35k miles. Shifting when the fluid was new was poor, only after months of driving did it improve marginally. Overall, it was very lackluster compared to the glowing reviews I had seen for Redline. When cold, I was getting a slight grind going into third gear until warmed up.

Cold weather performance of Redline was even poorer

With the Ravenol MTL even in the cold winter weather, shifting has been much improved, no more 3rd gear grind. Shifting is much smoother overall!

I also bought the timing belt kits from Blauparts. Along with that, I got their 75w-90 for the RD and transfer case. The RD was full syn and the other was semi syn. To soon to give an honest review, but looking forward to Seeing how they perform before next change. Anyway, they also sent me a coupon with that order, so I just bought their ATF kit for the tiptronic. It was less than $100 for the fluid, gasket, o rings and filter, which I thought was a helluva deal. I can’t wait to change it out. Car has low mile, but it does shift from reverse to drive a bit rough. Now that I got my VAG com, I can monitor the tranny temp while changing it. 😀

    Ravenol 75w-80 MTF-2 extended review

Now that you had quite some time with this product how did it work out for you in the long-term.
I have a 2019 Honda Civic hatchback sport that I am planning on using it on.
Just figured from what I've learned of the product it may be better for cold weather any long term use versus factory.
    Thanks in advance Robert

It is still doing its job quite well! I will be using this on my A5 when it hits 75k miles.

OG (or anyone else)... do/did you hear more rolling gear noise after switching to Ravenol? I have about 200 miles on a fresh oil change in an 02x (GJV) 6mt... and I hear speed-dependent gear jangle when rolling with the windows down. I don't remember hearing that sound so clearly before.

With the trans in neutral, rolling down a hill... the sound would have to be front diff, correct? To hear gearbox noise, I would have to roll in gear with the clutch engaged. I'll have to see if different gears result in different noise.

Curious why you went with 75w-80. OEM is 75w-90 right? I'm sure both will work fine but was wondering if there was a good reason to do so.

If anything my gearbox got quieter with the Ravenol. I definately haven't noticed any increase in noise.

not sure if I should be posting in here or questions too dumb to ask because I feel like an idiot for not being able to figure out myself but I've looked all over and cant figure out how many quarts I need to buy.

I've got a '05 6MT quattro and according to my manual, I need 3.7 quarts for the transmission but how much do I need for the differential? I take it I should also be using ravenol for the differential as well?

On a manual tranny the front diff is lubricated by the same oil that's in the tranny.

Recently I have had several inquiries about how the Ravenol has been performing over time. It has now been through four summer/winter cycles and I can say that it still performs flawlessly. My transmission has 240k+ miles on it and it pretty much shifts the same as it did when I purchased the A4 in 2003.

Still giving it an A+ rating

    Ravenol 75w-80 MTF-2 Review

Okay so here is my review. A4 B6 2002 1.8T 5 Speed Manual FWD FPS Transmission. I put this exact oil in yesterday and I’ve got to say that I expected a bit more. The main reason I replaced mine was because shifting from 1st to 2nd was hard in the winter, shifting from 2nd to 1st was almost impossible if the car wasn’t stationary, shifting from 3rd to 2nd always felt forced and hard to do and if you wanted a smooth 3-2 shift you would have to bring the speed down to 30km/h. Now after putting this oil in I can say that shifting from 2nd to 1st is definitely better and you can do it around 20km/h, shifting from 3rd to 2nd is also better since now you can shift it when going 50km/h but sometimes it still feels kind of forced, but better than before. Now shifting from 1st to 2nd was always kind of not smooth, I mean you know that feel when you slice the butter and how smooth it feels well shifting should feel the same but that was not the case in my case, sometimes in the winter it would be impossible to shift from 1st to 2nd and in the summer it would be possible but kind of rough (no audible sounds) but you could feel it. Now after replacing the oil you can feel that it shifts a bit better but only at lower speeds, if you shift from 1st to 2nd and your speed is around 20/30km/h it still feels kind of not that smooth. But overall it is better. I will give you an update when the winter comes and temperatures plummet. Edit: I don’t know if this is just my imagination but the overall driving experience feels kind of smoother with less vibrations.

I just did the same swap, stock for Ravenoil. I was using the G052911A2 ( not G055532A2). Compared to the G052911A2 ($29.95 a qt) the Ravenoil might be slightly smoother but they are so close its hard to tell. The oil that came out had about 40,000 miles on it. I would go with its at least as good as the more expensive factory stuff if not slightly better. It does seem to have helped with the shudder problem I had pulling out while turning. I'm going to guess that it reduced friction in the torsen. The car generally seems to drive better.

    Oil type discussion: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...identification

    It gets my recommendation.
