brakes squeak coming to a stop at low speeds

did a search and was hard to get an exact answer, so like the title says, my brakes squeak when i come to a stop at low speeds. I went to the dealership and they stated i had 8mm of pads left. My rotors doesnt seem to need to be replace as it does vibrate when stopping. I have a 2016 S5 with only 16000 miles. Should i start looking into get new pads soon or can we put some type of brake grease on it? I am on OEM everything right now.

My '15 S5 with 13K miles just started doing this so I'm interested in finding a cure too. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's always at low speeds, like 25 MPH or less. Sometimes it will go away if I brake hard once or twice. Until now, not a peep out of brakes since I bought the beast 2 years ago.

Just like your car, mine is completely stock.

my front passenger is the squealer for me (also at low speeds) I have plenty of pad life left, but was told it was due to brake dust, even the smallest amount can cause the squeal, it's hard to clean all the dust on my wave rotors...

I got my s5 used back in September, and had brake squeak when going slow and finally deciding to stop....was kinda embarrassing really to be slow going around a parking lot, and pulling in, only to have the brakes squeak in front of everyone. I ended up switching out the oem pads which had a good portion of life in them, and put in Akebono Euros. They don't have the bite as the oem, but the squeaking is gone, and the braking is more predictable and consistent. Also low low brake dust, I dont have to clean the rims every week.

brakes squeak coming to a stop at low speeds

A lot of our cars with stock pads do this especially during the winter. If you search in the forum you will find many threads addressing this. It's mostly due to the pads.

My car did the same last year and I switched to EBC Redstuff pads and since then no squeaking anymore.
A lot of people here go with Akebono and are doing fine too.

Did you swap out pads and rotors too? I think I hate all the dust more than the squeaking

+1 My experiences exactly. After around 12k miles on OEM pads/rotors had the embarrassing squeak at low speeds. Based on searching these forums I switched to Akebono ceramic pads and Textar rotors. Have almost 10k on these and they have never made a sound. Less initial bite and very low brake dust as well. When these wear out I will replace them with exactly the same.

I'm in Phoenix and the squeaking was happening on 100+ degree days, so while low temps may make it worse, it certainly isn't required.

Suffered with this for 2 years till i changed my rotors and pads at 25k .. have not heard it since with even temps down to 10 degress... prior to that as soon as the temp dipped below 60 degrees it would start squealing. Its normal for the pads Audi uses. I had taken mine in at 5k for this and they said its normal sent me packing

My brakes are only noisy when they're super cold on the Audi, and I never think twice about it because I know it's completely normal for some brake compositions to be louder than others. I've had Hawk HPS and HP+ pads on most of my cars over the last 12+ years at this point, so I'm no stranger to loud brakes. At least the S5's brakes stop being noisy after they heat up. The Evo brakes just get louder and louder as they warm up. It certainly doesn't bother me enough to justify updating the pads and rotors prematurely, though I'd likely upgrade the brakes down the road when it needs new brakes anyway.

I just swapped out all the pads, front and back, didn't touch the rotors. You need vagcom cable to release the parking brake for the rear pads.

In the past I have used autopartswarehouse.com for EBC pads and rotors for my other cars, but when I check for my Audi, it only showed EBC pads as part of a rotor combo set, and did not seem t offer the pads without rotors. Seems odd to me...

I have a 15 s4 with 13k miles. Does it all the time when the brakes are cold. Dealer told me that will always happen. In the cold weather they squeal more than in the summer. Do some hard stops and they don't squeak anymore. My buddy put on hawk hps and they don't squeak. Not as much intial bite but very linear.

From what I've been told and as noticed in the thread this is a common thing and audi knows. My friend whose an audi tech is going to apply some type of oil thats used on the rs brakes that helps decrease it if not take it away completely. So fingers crossed

Went on the Audi website for service and saw this: "Brake Clean and Adjust Service." Would that help fix some of the problems of the squeaks? Anyone know how much that runs?

So from watching my friend he said because of the stock brakes material there tends to be vibrations on the hinges of the brake pads that you can notice are orange from rust. he applied this Audi gel to these rusty hinges on the brake pad as well as on caliper its been 2 days and so far and the squeaks have been gone. Just wanted to inform whats been up. will give another update in a couple more days, see how long this can last, he says it'll be the fix i needed and i believe him but we shall see haha

Bingo! This is what I did for mine, and have now done two other 2016's. The OE pads, while having good initial bite, are noisy. After about 1K miles, the bite picks ups bit, but still not like stock. that said, the Akebonos are very consistent through braking.

My brakes are squeaky, especially at low speed and easy pedal. There is a supplement that came in our owners manual packet that says this is due to the semi-metallic material they use and if you drive more aggressively they will be less likely to squeal.

Same situation on my 2015 S5 (28k miles); brake noise when braking at slow speeds and more so now in the colder weather. My pedal feel also seems mushy and less responsive. Probably time for a full brake job in my case.
