    Black Optic Package

I'm in the market for a 3.0T and the dealer has one coming in with the Black Optic Package. This wasn't an option that was originally on my must have list so I have a couple questions. Are there any benefits of the three-spoke multi-function flat-bottom sport steering wheel with shift paddles that comes as part of this package other than it looks great. Are there features which come with the flat bottom that are different than the standard steering wheel. Also are there any performance advantages with the 20" Audi Sport® 5-V-spoke design Titanium wheels which are also part of this package; i.e., are they lighter? I actually prefer the looks of the 20" 5-arm design wheels, but did notice that 5-V-spoke design Titanium wheels are also an option on the SQ5 so thought there may be some performance advantage of this wheel over the 20" 5 arm design wheels. I believe they both use 255/45 size tires. Thanks.

It's really basically cosmetic differences that are part of the packages you're talking about. The steering wheel is going to be slightly thicker with more contours. And if there's a difference in wheel weights, it will almost definitely be negligible as both are ultimately pretty standard cast wheels.

Yeah, cosmetic. But a nice cosmetic, depending on your tastes of course. Flat bottom steering wheel is awesome though, get it if you can.

My Q5 is an S-Line with black optics and it has all of those features, but my wife's Q5 doesn't. The steering wheel feels so much better and the 20" tires are actually cheaper because they're a common size. The factory 19" tires are a lot more expensive and there are fewer options.

Thanks for all the feedback. Did not realize the 20" tires are a more common size versus the 19" tires. I did notice the selection of the 21" tires are much more limited and therefore more expensive. I was hoping the Sport 5-V-spoke design Titanium wheels would have some performance benefit since it was a option on the SQ5. It still looks nice but my initial choice was the 20" 5 arm design wheel. May have to settle based on what is available in my area.

Get the black optics. I think it is a desirable long term option since the black grill, window trim and roof rails are much better looking and it sets the car apart from most of the other ones. The steering wheel is much nicer and it is super easy to swap out the wheels to get what you want. I kept the black optics wheels for winter use and got another set of the 5 spoke rotor wheels for summer. Swapping wheels is easy, the other stuff, not so much.

Thanks. The blacked out grill and other trim pieces do look sharp. I did have a chance to test drive a SQ5 and the steering wheel did feel nice in the hands. I just wasn't originally considering this $1500 option. You are right that it does set the car apart for the other Q5s.

Thanks. Is $8000 off MSRP a typical discount?

There's really no "typical" discount. It's going to vary depending on your location, what that particular dealer has access to, the time of year, your negotiating skills, how the sales manager feels that day, etc. The dealers I contacted when I was buying offered anywhere from only my 6% corporate discount to a 13% discount.

21" wheels aren't required for the BO package.

So true. Definitely worth shopping around a bit if you can. That said, $8k is a very good discount. You're working with a dealer who wants to, "push tin." Just keep in mind, there are always lots of variables to a good deal, with discount-off-MSRP only being one. Make sure all the numbers work for you, but it sure sounds like you're off to a great start.
