What's the deal with oil pumps???

So since I'm doing a stroker build, and my engine had 120k on it, I decided I should replace the oil pump along with it. I've looked everywhere for a good deal and I'm just confused now.

I started on eBay, found a few OEM oil pumps for $50-$60. I ordered one, got some Chinese oil pump, so I sent it back. Ordered another one from a different seller, same thing. They both assured me that it was OEM, even though it was made in china...

Decided to order an oem from a parts retailer. Paid $170 for an oem pump... got the same Chinese pump...

Has Vw/Audi outsourced this part to the Chinese??? Are there any good deals on reputable pumps that anyone knows of?

Has it got the rings on it? If so then I guess VAG must be getting them made in china now. If not... well...

The sprocket on the front and the pickup tube do, the pump itself doesn't. One of the eBay pumps had rings on the pump, but it looked like a 4th grader chisled out the shape.

A lot of VAG replacement parts are made in China unfortunately. Strange that they are having replacement parts made in a different location than parts they use to manufacture the car initially. Probably cost cutting effects.

The genuine oem on Ecs looks like the same one that came out of my car, but $200 is quite a bit for a pump. The only thing is, some of the other places had the same pictures as Ecs does, and I still got the Chinese one.

Oil pumps in these cars are mechanical. There's really nothing that can go bad on the oil pump itself. The pickup tube can get clogged but that's due to sludge and not a mechanical issue. The biggest thing is checking the clearance. Which you can read about in the link below.

I'd say as long as the clearances check out go ahead and run whatever pump you bought.

    Febi is made in Germany.

You can see from this pic the last 3 letters in Germany through the sprocket :)
