    Blower fan stopped working....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Seems like a common issue and lots of hits in google...

People are saying to remove and clean...

Only thing I can find is a video on YouTube of a guy talking about doing it rather then actually doing it......

Anyone have a link to a proper DIY for this?

Is it for sure the blower motor? Mine stopped working, went to Audi dealer to get a new one, purchased one while talking to the parts department, and told me it could be the blower motor resistor, told me to check that first before...well I bought a slightly used one online, removed the passenger side glove box and replaced it, blower motor works fine and error code went away. The code pointed to the blower motor, but didn't mention the resistor, reason why I thought it was the motor.

I don't have a link but I will give you a quick run down of what I did. My blower was making a chirping sound at certain speeds so I thought I'd see if oiling the motor shaft would help, it did and it has been silent for weeks so at the very least I put off buying a new blower motor.

Mine is an 08 S5. First remove the sheild that covers the cabin air filter. With that clear you can see the blower motor which appears to rotate and release after lifting a tab which locks it into place. Mine did not rotate more than a couple degrees until I removed one screw on what I believe is the resistor block along side the blower motor. Then it rotated and could be removed almost, I couldn't see the plug to disconnect the motor so I determined removing the glove box would help. To do so I removed the bolts along the bottom of the dash holding the airbag in place, the bolts inside the glovebox, and the bolts accessed from the side of dash fuse panel. At that point the whole assembly could be lowered while being careful to disengage a trim piece along the center console and supporting the airbag wire. Then I could see the plug and remove the motor. I oiled it and reinstalled the motor first and then the glovebox. Total time about 2.5 hours with a coffee break in the middle. I suggest trying to remove the motor by itself first as you may have better luck. I think I could do it without removing the glove box the second time as I now know how the plug is located and released. In fact I'd say if all went well I could swap a motor in 30 minutes or less.

Not 100% sure yet what it is, but I have read of people removing and cleaning them to solve the issue due to dust build up that causes a short?

When mine stops working and I smash my hand on the passenger side of the dash it sometimes comes back on.... no joke

I tried to get it out without removing the glove box without any luck.... I can get my hands on it but cannot seem to be able to unplug or twist it off.

Sorry I forget to mention this is a intermittent problem.

    The faults I get are:

    01273 - Fresh Air Blower (V2)
009 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent

01844 - Control Module for Fresh Air Blower (J126)
    014 - Defective - Intermittent

I'm going to say 90% the problem is your control module, since the air blower sits behind/operated by the control module, ECU will detect it faulty and will also detect the blower faulty because it's not rotating, not rotating because the control module controls the speed, if this is all making sense. So yeah, going on a hunch and say your blower is fine. The control module isn't tasking either, remove the glovebox and it's right there in plain sight.

    UPDATE:

Got the fan out, spayed it with contact cleaner, blew it off with compressed air, put it back in and works like new.

Lots of dust/dirt/etc came out of it...

Also cleaned off the metal part of the control module with all the bumps which had a calcium like crud or corrosion.

Hopefully this solves my intermitted problem if not ill have to look into replacing the blower motor and/or control module.

Had this problem too, just finished swapping the blower motor this Monday. Cleaned it out before too and only seemed to last a couple months so I would recommend buying a new one. They're not that expensive either if you know how to swap it out yourself.
