Cost to replace the intake manifold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2010 Audi A4 Prem Plus MT with 60K miles. Have been getting error codes P2015 and P2279 occasionally for close to a year now (even though the car seems to run OK). These seemingly indicate that my intake manifold is failing and needs to be replaced.

The local dealership (Burlingame, CA) quoted $1,700 for the job. What is a reasonable price at an independent shop in the Bay Area for this type of job?

    Thx
    M

    Thx.

How many hours of work are typically required for this type of job?

Ill see if i can get that information from my buddy who was an audi tech tomorrow when he wakes up. Believe it was 4.5 hours for my water pump (billed 650 @ 145 an hour) and I believe that required removal of the intake manifold.

I'm fairly new to Audi, but intake manifolds, I don't believe, are a "wear" item that needs to be replaced unless they are damaged.....what are those codes saying?

What part wears? You'd think in 2016 ones that created, in support of a factory turbo, would be more robust than a car built in 97 that wasn't designed for FI, but works just fine :-)

I believe it's fairly common - it's not necessarily the manifold but the integrated position sensor, which can't be replaced separately. Find a good indie mechanic - mine replaced the intake manifold on my 2012 A4 at 117k miles for $275 and I bought the OEM part from Deutsche Auto Parts online for 150 or so. $1,700 is insane.

I'd say $100 for a used part maybe (brand new oem could be pricey) and I'd say 3-4 hrs max. There is a DIY available for carbon cleaning so shows how to remove the IM. It doesn't look overly complicated and seems like 5/10 skill level just don't drop the bolts (buy extra ones)

You should probably do a carbon clean while your in there.

I think your quote is including a carbon clean with assuming $500 part cost and 7-8 hrs labour for all

Sometimes it's the little arm that moves the flaps that break. Gruven Parts makes a replacement http://www.gruvenparts.com/audi-vw-1...-linkage-arms/

Thats really an apples to orange comparison. The part that breaks is the PZEV flaps that rely on a vaccum signal, and also have some sort of small solenoid valve. It has to do with cutting down on emissions. Prior to this even back in 97' Audi AEB intake manifolds could withstand anything you could throw at them, and they were large port too!

The job took me about 3 hours from start to finish and I wasn't in any sort of rush. It's really not that bad if you're mechanically inclined. I also have a used manifold off a 2009 I'd be willing to get rid of for cheap. Replaced it thing the actuator arm was broken as I was getting codes, turns out it was a frayed wire at the base of the harness that went to that plug, the one I took off still works fine.
