Caliper Paint, What did you USE?

Geting Ready to paint my Q5 calipers to go on the S4. I know powder coating is optimal but I am painting. It looks like stock calipers on the RS5 were also painted. You could see that due to overspray on the seals. If they were powder coated then there would be no overspray as everything would have to be disassembled.

Please let me know what you used, immediate results and what is your long therm experience. Thanks.

I painted my calipers in gloss black with a VHT high temp paint and it looks great. I am going 2 years and with 0 issues (no chipping, fading, etc..). It really comes down to how well you prep the calipers and mask off the area.

Even though my calipers came out great, I wouldn't recommend painting them in any color other than black because it looks extremely cheap. The shape, texture, and size of the stock calipers just don't look great in colors. Black allows your wheels to stand out more and the stock silver turns ugly quickly anyways.

Thanks. Calipers are new. Prep should be easy. These are big brembos I am painting from a Q5. Powder coat is great but I am applying a sticker and clearing over.

I have used both G2 caliper paint and the brush on stuff made by Duplicolor at auto parts stores. The G2 paint still looks flawless 5-6 years later. The Duplicolor looked great initially, but needed to be redone every spring and fall until I sold the vehicle. The unevenness is due to the cast calipers, not the paint.

Used VHT caliper spray almost two years ago and it still looks fantastic! Easy DIY.

OEM RS5 calipers are painted, not powder coated, just FYI.

I am by no means poor. I have a complete RS5 kit sitting in the garage. Calipers, rotors (front rear), hubs, MC/booster, i even went to an extend of getting RS5 suspension. RS5 calipers are very heavy loaded with pads. 2 Q's calipers without pads are less weight than one loaded RS5 unit. It was all ingeneered to work together, i am sure they did spring rates and shock valving differently to accommodate for extra heavy calipers and 20 inch wheels.

I'm happy with them so far. They don't bite as great as the stoptechs I had on there, but they get the job done.

I used Rust-Oleum red caliper paint and some Rust-Oleum High Temp clear coat. My fronts have a bit of brake dust marring, backs are perfect still. Fronts look a bit faded from the brake dust that just won't come off, but overall still very nice.

Nothing against colored calipers, I have my MK5 GLI calipers in red (stock) and painted my old MK4 calipers red myself. It's just that 90% of rattle can jobs are mediocre at best. It's kind of like the equivalent of needing a paint job but buying a DIY plastidip kit (I am guilty of that on my old MK4 haha ). That being said, not all rattle can or DIY dip jobs are bad.
