    REVO Hack?

An Ebay SPS3 item has this interesting comment:

Q: Hi, Will the Revo SPS3 function to effect changes in the ECU settings (of in my case an Audi S4 biturbo)without the basic Revo serial port software having already installed in the car's ECU? Why are you selling ? Thanks, Andrew

A: Andrew - I have an S4 Bi-Turbo too. The Revo software must be installed first but there is a cheat. Apparently you can get the trial version installed and then once it expires, use the SPS3 dongle to increase boost levels etc. The trial version simply reverts boost and fuel etc to std once it expires so with SPS3 you change back to increased levels. I am selling as I had another problem with the car which meant the REVO chip was not operating efficiently. I had a custom map done to take advantage of my other mods and to by-pass the other issue I have. Check out RS246.com for loads of info on this. Rob

    Edit:

Can't get the link to work. Get on Ebay and do a search for SPS3. You'll get only two hits. Open the first one.

Well if we don't hear from official Revo sources soon, I guess people are going to assume that it can be done...

regardless of whether it's possible or not, to do something like that and mess w/ the boost level without having any kind of support is just plain stupid...you'll obviously void your factory warrenty, and now you won't even have a tuner to back you up!

This is slightly misleading, you can adjust the ECM without having REVO software if you have the SPS3...however, you must use Lemmiwinks to do it. Lemmiwinks has approx 17 different channels that may be changed, the changes will not be permanent and will be adapted out. Most new software programs from competitors of REVO are "firewalled" from the SPS3 and Lemmiwinks.

The SPS3 will act as a OBDII dongle when paired with the correct serial port to mini din cable.

If Lemmiwinks is needed, how does the SPS3 unit fit into the procedure? Lemmiwinks does not require an SPS3 to effect adaption channel value settings, but to use the SPS
3 requires Lemmiwinks? Please explain. Further, I am fairly sure that changes to adaption channals are not "adapted out". Otherwise, there is no functional purpose or rational for having those channals/settings available.

Let me see if I can clarify this.

You go to a Revo dealer and have a trial version flashed into your ECU. You drive around until the trial expires and your car reverts back to OEM settings.

We all know that even though the car now behaves as it came out from the factory, the software that's running inside the ECU is still Revo, not the OEM software.

It seems that Revo achieves this dual personality by having two sets of tables: "chipped" and "stock". When the trial expires the code looks at the "stock" tables.

So far I've said nothing that is not fairly common knowledge.

What this guy is saying on Ebay is that you can bring the "chiipped" mode back by using the SPS3. If that's true you could get yourself Revoed for free (assuming the SPS3 is borrowed).

I paid for by Revo flash. I paid for my vag-com also. I don't think that hacking software is a good idea. To me it is plain stealing.

I brought this up so the ppl at Revo can verify of the claim is true and, if so, they can address the issue.

    Cheerios!
