Hey guys, got a question and am not sure about. I bought 3 jugs of Rotella t5 15w-40 Synthetic blend and didn't realize at the time that they had changed the rotella that I was previously using to Rotella T6 fully synthetic.

I'm driving a 2.8l audi b5. First drive after I had put this oil in it I noticed the car rpm was very low on a hill, not sure if it's due to this or maybe something else.

Let me know what you guys are thinking about this. Should I keep this oil running or what?

And also I live in Canada Temperature was around -21 to -30 Degrees Celsius this past week.

My understanding for the A4 is to use the VW specification of 502.00 so unless the container mentions it I'd avoid where possible. You may want to double check with the owners manual or it may also be listed on the front fender under the hood (the S3 has it located there).

I purchase my oil from the VW dealership at a decent price - 6 liters + filter + taxes = 75 bucks whereby the Audi dealership sells the Castrol brand for a couple of bucks more in total. Mind you I can't locate the Castrol brand anywhere else other than the Audi dealership.
Fully synthetic oils at Costco, Walmart and Canadian Tire do not meet the VW specification - at least those that I visit.

You can use the following links here and here.

I'm sure others will chime in.

Rotella T6 is fine. I'd dump what you have and replace it. T6 is the only oil I would use that is not VW 502.00 approved.

15w40 is WAY too thick to be running in those temperatures. I'm actually surprised they would even sell that stuff up there in the great white north. You should probably be running 5w30 or 0w30 or something like that. T6 5W40 is probably fine, but something thinner would be more suitable for your extreme climate situation.

I used to run Asmsoil Signature Series 0w30 in the winter and Amsoil Euro 5w40 in the summer. But my winters are nowhere near as cold as yours is. Compromise around my way is 5w30 all year round...but I just said f it and run 5w40 all year now. Used to run Rotella T6 on old block. Now I switch it up with Walmart stuff and Mann filters. Right now running Mobil Euro blend (can not recall viscosity). Next up I am going to try this Pennzoil made from natural gas base stock...I think. Picked up two different gallon jugs I want to try next.

Back on topic, get that oil out your engine and run 0w30 for Canada winters. That or 5w30 if you can not source 0w30. And when all else fails, check out Bob Is The Oil Guy (BITOG).

Same as what everyone else said about too thick for our winters. I had 15W40 in my BMW M30 and at around 5*C and lower (winter stored, but run into Nov last year) it would stall after initial start-up, and idle low until warm. Switched to 5W40 and it runs fine at the lower temps.
