!!!!!Totaled!!!!! And Progressive is trynna SCREW me over!!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,
    Car: 2015 allraod premium plus
Mods: Accuair complete kit, 20x10.5 Vossen cv5 with Conti

I hit a pot hole while it was raining, the car was totaled. Progressive sends me a document stating that they are giving me $270 for the above stuff. I just got off the phone with the progressive peoplle and I told them if that's how much you are going to give for my stuff, then I will like to take them off the car and they can have their $270. And the lady says, if I did that, they will have revalue the amount I'm getting back. But when I told her the cost of the suspension($6500) and the wheels( $2000) and that I can send them the receipts, she says it rearly makes a difference(9 out of 10, it will not change and even if it did, it may go up by $100)

    What a load of crap!!!!!

What are my options? Any ideas?

If you want your mods insured, you need to let the insurance company know that. They insured a ~$45,000 car. Your mods made it be a $55,000 car, they did not insure that.

I get that, but if you are not covering it and won't pay for it, shouldn't I have the right to take those parts out?

did you add coverage for aftermarket parts? if not sol usually sry. as for taking parts, if you put on the stock parts you should be ok as if there is no added value for the aftermarket parts according to them then there should be no diminished value

I have the oem suspension and I'm willing to have them put back. I want my duel compressors, management system and the tank. They can have the rest

Progressive offers extra coverage on their policies for mods. You pick the amount of extra coverage and keep the receipts as proof.

My SQ5 was just totaled by progressive last month. They could care less that it was an Audi Exclusive car that was an additional $13k to begin with. They did let me take my ADV1s thank god.

Nothing else. I had to move the car from the car from the road to a side street. I called them, and it was towed.

Ah how can hitting a pothole total your car?.If you did not list the extras when signing the policy then your out of luck.Insurance do not care what level of trim of the car also when paying out on a claim.

Makes no sense.....and the images wouldn't suggest that the car's totaled (although can't see much). I think he means his suspension was totaled not the car.....but who knows.
But as others have said, your mods do not increase the value of the car either for insurance or resale.

I'm still not buying onto the car being totaled. You should send the DOT a nice fat bill with pictures of the pothole and damage report.

Insurance won't cover what they didn't know about, so that air suspension and those wheels are not their problem. In NY, some towns will accept applications for damages due to improperly maintained roads; however, rarely are they ever awarded. The only problem I see here is the undercarriage, since you have all of the original parts.

So they are giving you $xx,xxx as the value of a TOTALED vehicle plus $270 for your added wheels and suspension? And you say keep your $270 and let me remove my mods and put the oem stuff back on. So they say ok but if you do that we need to re-evaluate $xx,xxx that we are giving you for your vehicle?

Is this what I'm reading? If yes, I would say common sense says that they are screwing you over. As far as the policy/laws state I don't know. I believe you but looking at that picture of car, it seems impossible for it to be totaled.

    Good Luck.

Usually you have to declare mods that require coverage in your policy. That said, my progressive rep covered every single thing in my accident. They even bought me a new ECS intake and Ecodes

That's exactly what I am saying. I should be able to take out the part. The estimator/agent made the call to total the car, not the shop

Did you clarify to them that you have the original OEM equipment you would relinquish in place of retrieving your aftermarket stuff? The OEM equipment should not be deducting the amount of valuation they originally quoted. Something doesn't sound right.

The issue comes in with not insuring for extra modifications. On paper your factory shock / spring packages and wheels likely cost more than the air components and cast Vossens when they look at "replacement cost".

While I agree with you 100%, the issue isn't that he's not getting proper value for his aftermarket equipment. It's that they already created a supplemental valuation for his aftermarket equipment on top of the valuation for the totaled vehicle.

Supplying his OEM equipment back to the vehicle should not decrease it's original valuation, as they're implying it might.

You should sue the city for not repairing the pot hole.

That only works if the city has been properly notified of it in the first place. At least that's how it works in San Diego - it has to have been reported first, then allowed an appropriate amount of time for repair.

I have progressive and totaled my 2013 A4 with a bunch of mods on it that I did not declare. Of course I wasn't getting back anything for the mods, however the body shop assisted me in removing the mods, didn't even tell the insurance company what I was doing. I had to relinquish the equivalent stock parts but I was good to go and now the aftermarket parts I removed now live in my 2012 A4. It might just a matter of removing the parts yourself and not telling the insurance company anything.

Shouldn't be an issue with you repossessing the car and returning it to stock. I've done this with two cars via USAA. Granted you're not going to get an immediate payout until your insurance company has the carcass in their possession, but if you can retrieve the car in a timely manner, remove the aftermarket stuff, and reinstall the OEM stuff you should be okay.

I read this full thread and looked at all of your pictures, and I still don't see a totaled car here. There is no conceivable way that this did ~$28,000 worth of damage to your car.

If they seriously do deem it "totaled," I'd say take the check and buy it back from them, then repair it and enjoy the profit.

Just be glad they aren't being real pricks. The majority of the damage sounds as it were possible caused by the mods. low profile tires transferred more shock to a modified suspension that caused the wheel to travel further than it would have in stock configuration. It could be viewed as your unreported mods caused the incident. This likely would have just been a flat tire on a stock allroad.

I have Geico and this past summer i was involved in a parking lot accident. I had OEM ecodes installed in which the right headlight was damaged but wasn't covered, however the body shop i went to was able to convince the adjuster to replace both headlights with OEM ecodes. :)

Well, I just argued my point. And the adjuster said that seemed reasonable. It prolonged the process by 3 days.

You are lucky you didn't get into a accident because the insurance could void your policy because of having non oem suspension and wheels.Seen it happen in Canada.
