I have went through a number of different turbos. I started with k04, went to a gt2871r, and now a gt3071r-wg. The 3071r-wg is crap, simply too long for spool up. My b5 avant has gt2560r on it which is perfect for a daily and will be swapped to my beater b5. I want to try 6758efr (which I have) but not much support currently out there. I gave up and bought the gtx2867r.

My concern with the gtx2871r is the turbine can not flow enough to max out the compressor. The 3071r vs 2871r will make about 50hp more while both use the same compressor. The 3071r-wg has a turbine between the gt28 and gt30 turbine. They call it a gtx29 with the new billet turbos. I hope you are going to dyno your setup. I wonder if the turbine will limit the hp potential with it like it does the 2871r.

We go with wheel hp instead of crank hp. The awd consumes a good bit of the hp. I think it's something like 22% or 25%. The most I have ever seen with gt2871r is 350awhp.

I sent you a pm as well.

Zandrew - that gt2560r is that the same as the gt2x turbo ATP is selling?

I know about this Zandrew, maybe i have to upgrade to the GTX3071R someday.

The reason for the smaller GTX was my 5speed drivetrain, it cant take that much torque i was looking for...

In a daily and from my expierence you want the gtx28 turbine as it spools much quicker. My 3071r-wg is the bigger 90 trim with the .86 turbine housing. Are you running the .64 or .86 turbine housing?

Ryan- the gt2560r is what atp uses in there stage 3 kit. The gt2860rs is there stage 3 +. Flow wise there is not much difference between the gt2560r compressor and the gt2860rs compressor. The gt25 spools much faster but will not make as much peak hp as the gt28rs. It's an excellent daily turbo. The gt2x kit uses a gt2554r which is much smaller compressor mated to gt25 turbine. Spools instantly. The 2554 makes 28lb min and the 2560 makes 35 lb min. Each lb min will generate 10 hp. In theory which is well supported since sr20det engines use both 2554 and 2560 compressors the 2560 will make 70 more hp.

If you wanted to get the 2560 instead of the 2554 I am sure they would swap them out as it will literally bolt in. May be a small up charge. The 2560 will safely max out a stock block without blowing it up on a good tune.

Phenomenal work here. Cannot wait to see your final outcome.

You are an inspiration to us all.

Can't wait to see the actual numbers you put out once tunes, and if you decide to stick with or switch your turbo set up.

Good luck with the rest of the build !

I can run between 750-850 km with one tank of fuel. Depends on if a drive in town or highway.

Well... it's okay for me, i drive this car since more then six years, so i can deal with it

If you have not bought it yet, I would recommend against the gtx2871r. The max for the GTX 28 series for efficiency reasons is the 67 wheel. If you want a 71r wheel get a 2971r. You need more exhaust flow out.

first my new garage, had to move because the rent of the old garage was getting higher and higher...

    Shift linkage before...

    and after...

made the TRE TR11 IC fit in the front...slighty inclined to increase the efficiency a bit.

made a new trunk floor out of wood, to make the compressor of the airride quieter.

I just a normal wooden panel, compoundfoam 2cm thick and alubutyl, dont know if its the right word in english

And insulated the doors and the back shelf.

A few years ago i bought some US Spec Headlights, disassembled them to make BiXenon Lenses fit...

Also buyed a US Spec trunklid and taillights (not in the picture)

I dont know if i can run with the trunlid, in Germany it's really hard to get a licensplate that fit in there...

That's the current state of my project...feel free to ask me questions
I want to know what did you use for making the lenses bixenon??

Love the build! I want to do something like this with my avant. Just gut it and completely re-build it.

Curious on what tuning you run with the turbo. (and an update)

No the bearings of the Crank und Rod's were worn, i guess there was some kind of dirt in the crank.

Ordered a new forged crank and now i got no problems...so far

Would you be comfortable with sharing how much approximately did you spent on this project? (excluding your own work of course).

not often you see a red b5 or at least i dont see many also its not often you see someone add sound deadening, i personally am doing something somewhat similar with my car at the moment, only difference is not quite as far into detail and no rust repair needed as i live in a u.s state with very little rust on anything cars that arent 30 or more years old. love the build a bit different then most, would love to see some more updates.

    Good Morning Guys and Girl's

Sorry for the delay...again...but here's the current status.

Last big thing was...i drove just a couple miles to check things, after one hard pull my engine sound like shit, first thought, rodbearing...

Back in my garage i removed the oilpan and a rodcap and i found this...it's not that bad but fuuuuck...

So i threw the engine out again...

As the engine was removed i found the source for the weird noice, one pulley was loose, idk why, everything was installed with loctite.

So i bought a new oem BAM forged Crankshaft, new main and rod bearing, assembled everything.

    New Steeringwheel.

    Selfmade Boostgauge Holder.

    RNS-E Upgrade with selfmade frontplate.

Bought a 01E drivetrain, refurbished erythang

Bought a new set of wheels. ATS GTR 9x18

Trans will go in, in a few weeks when i i did the 4:1 centerdiff mod.
