    OBDeleven - New Vag-com alternative?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So far this looks promising. It looks like a little more than what carista offers at this time. He mentions that logging and IOS is not currently available however it will be in the future.

This actually looked good until he said "credits to do things". Lol. Gimme a break. You can't start out your ad and sales pitch about how good your product is because it's $60 as opposed to $350, when you know damn well that people will need to buy credits to do more. Such a bait and switch tactic, I don't know why people are fine with this in any software solution. Pay once, own forever and maybe even upgrade free forever. That's how it should be and that's why VAGCOM is better in my opinion. I paid more, but I own it and can use it on as many vehicles as I want and it's the full version and I don't have to keep paying to do things. This is like the same reason why I don't like tuners that sell you a tune but then have you pay their tuner partner shops every time you need to flash back and forth for any reason or even flash latest updates (if no defect is requiring such an update). Some tuners will flash for free if you're updating because of a problem, but most will. Charge flash time to update to latest if you simply wanted it. It's trash man... ONCE AND DONE! I hate nickle and dime stuff. And honestly, the other gripe, I understand that the backend database is nice to have online for the sake of not needing to update the entire app if something should change, but think about the people who don't have a data connection for some particular reason when they need to use this app. What then? You obviously can't use it. They should code the app to all the download if current coding info and keep it locally so it doesn't require that data connection all the time. Think of it like a mapping/travel app that allows you to download the maps locally for where you're going and your way there so that it's all cached and no data connection is needed. Such a much better and dynamic option that way. Plus, they can still continue to update the online data and just allow the user to check for updates or have the app check for updates when started and if it cannot due to no connection, then simply use the locally downloaded info to work with. Anyway, rant over. Hahahaha

you dont have to use credits .... everyday you logon into the app you geht some credits .... if you want to coding something like "gauge test" you can pay 20credits and coding this by 1click or you go into the coding menu and do it by yourself ... also the app gets many updates .... for me its the best gadget for about 50 60 dollar :)

it probably sounds like that but he does a good job explaining that those credits for apps are like shortcut packs. Atzek333 mentioned it too, you can always long code an app shortcut but you cant pay for an app shortcut if you cannot longcode for free on for that same feature.

I've spent some decent amount of time researching OBDEleven, and it seems like it is the best of both worlds between the "easyness" of Carista, and "overall ability" of VCDS. It obviously has it's shortcomings, but I think for the price point it is a great alternative to VCDS.

The credit thing was poorly worded in the DAP video, and even online, but I've found more information that seems to clear it up, and as it was previously stated, you don't have to use credits to "code" things. And there is a means to earn credits by clicking on their advertising in the tool itself.

I'm a fan, and I plan to pick one up in the coming weeks. I figure at worst, I'm out $60 if it doesn't meet my needs and I need to suck it up and get a VCDS.

Keep us posted. The app idea for common changes is sure nice. No data logging or IOS support is a bummer.

In the DAP video, he does indicate that he asked about data logging, and mentioned it is something they will continue to work on. And I think I read in the comments on the YouTube DAP video that someone asked about IOS compatibility, and they confirmed it was something they were working on as well.

obdeleven has all the functionality of long coding at no additional cost. at this current time it can not do logs and thats about it. that feature is coming shortly

for me the biggest advantage is the fact that i dont need a laptop, all i need is my phone and i can code a car very very quickly

Where do you find the long codes to change things with OBDeleven? I just purchased it and yes you can use credits or long code. I'm just having a hard time finding what the long codes are by definition and how to change them correctly. Any link to some info on this would be appreciated so I can do some reading.

I think you can just utilize the coding from the VAG-COM thread...? http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-complete-list

I'm not certain, but I thought that's what I read.

I'm hoping that my lovely wife picks me up one of these for Christmas.

Yup, I used the same coding from the lists in that thread to make my changes using obdeleven. The only downside is VCDS has a brief description of each byte you're changing, whereas on obdeleven, you only get to check/uncheck each byte without any descriptions. You have to rely on blind faith to do what you want done. At least if you royally screw up any coding in obdeleven, you can go through your history of changes in the app and simply undo the changes. Didn't have a problem on any of the ~5 things I've changed so far - well worth the price IMO!

I bought 100 credits for $20 changed all the things I was actually interested in changing and reset my service all for $80. Yes that beats the $350 cost of the vcds.

Can this do the VIM coding?
    *edit looks like it can.

Sadly don't see gearshift display which doesn't work in Carista but I guess I can do the actual long coding. May have to pick this up

I just went through their website again and finally figured out the difference between their Pro and non-Pro versions. The ones listed so cheaply on ebay coincide with the non-Pro pricing on their website. To upgrade that Ebay one to Pro you would have to send an additional 20 euros.
I just bought the Pro version from their website for 51.00 euro which included 200 credits and free shipping as part of their Christmas Sale.

For others who may not know.

Really? I just got a reply back from the manufacturer (in Lithuania) ref: that ebay link I previously posted and he said that that particular sale does not include an activation code.
Do you remember the selling price? ~ 53.00 EUR or 53.00 USD maybe?

    ShopDAP also carries it: https://shopdap.com/store/vw-audi-sc...obdeleven.html

I realize that doesn't help you now, but if anyone else is looking to buy, from a reputable shop, this is as good as any. I've purchased from DAP in the past and they were fantastic.

I purchased this from DAP and it was a great & easy transaction.

I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy A Tablet, 8", 16GB at walmart for $150.

App download and account creation worked well, as did Pro activation.

I plugged it into my B6 S4 and it worked as I expected it to. Reset a couple of codes that I wasn't aware of, emailed the codes to myself for diagnosis, as well.

Moved the OBD11 to by B8.5 S4 and it won't connect. Moved it back to the B6, nothing, won't connect. Restarted the tablet, logged out of the app and back in, no dice. A little irritating.

Can see the OBD11 in available bluetooth devices on several of my devices here at home.

Have emailed DAP and will see what they say.

Oh dear - not good. I'm still waiting on delivery of mine from the manufacturer in Lithuania.
Have you queried the manufacturer with this dilemma ?
    Cheers

Has anyone been able to Enable Remote Operation Windows and Sunroof

It is done like this using VAGCOM:
    [46 - Cent. Conv.] [Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] Byte 2
    Bit 2 - Set to 1

When using OBD eleven, after you access 46 - Cent. Conv. ->Coding 07 -> you are asked for an access code to enter. Anyone know what this code is to get to the sunroof and window operation?

Here is what I found on OBDEleven:
    Controller coding

Yes, Paul (DAP) and I spoke today and he promptly issued me a return shipping label so that I could exchange the unit.

I had a few things I ran into that also required a security code. You need to go into the option that shows the details of the "module". In that window there is a serial number. Take that serial number and plug it into the "Automatic Vim Generator" on THIS PAGE (about half way down the page). It'll kick out two security codes for you to try. One of them should work, I was able to use this procedure, and never was told invalid security code.

Hit me on PM if you have any other questions, I can't do a step by step with you right now, but I can help more this evening if you need it.

So, Paul @ DAP has been awesome. Had my replacement unit before the original got back to him. Great guy.

Unfortunately, after pairing the second device with my tablet and putting in the device password, once logged out / closed the app and go back in, the device will not reconnect. Same procedure as before of unpairing, logging out / in of the app, able to see on other devices as well as android tablet, and no connection. Pretty frustrating to say the least.

I'll be contacting Paul again to see if he can get me in touch with someone at the vendor, and i'll keep you guys posted.

Anyone else have this weird issue?

Not sure if its the same issue but I need to disconnect and reconnect my module anytime I log out of the app otherwise it never connects.
2010 S4, DSG, too many random parts. 2004 Mazda RX-8, was highly modified then went back to stock.

Might sound like I'm asking a stupid question, but I'm going for it anyways... Did you go into your Bluetooth setup on your tablet/phone and make sure it was connected to the OBD device? I know I over looked that when I set mine up initially and it was frustrating... Simple oversight, but still...

Just to paraphrase here - while already paired to the app, you unplug the OBDEleven and then plug it back in and then you log out? Is this with an android phone?

I am paired on a Galaxy Tab A, used 1234 to pair. Opened the app, connected for the first time on the second device and put in the pw of 123456. I'm able to go through the modules in the car. I had to step away for a few min, so I closed the app and left the tablet and device in the car, but unplugged the device from the OBD port before I turned the acc pwr off.

Have tried unplugging the device and reinserting it to the OBD port with no success.

Not stupid at all! But, yes, I would even unpair, and repair the device and could see that the BT icon was displayed in the top bar of the tablet and no connection.
