Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking into getting an alarm for my car. Any recommendations from alarm users will be appreciated. Please list:
    - Pros/Cons
    - Price

Note: I've seen Car Alarm system that claims Keyless entry & Remote start as well, how reliable is that?

    Thanks all!

I haven't seen anyone in this section get an aftermarket car alarm or the options at that.

Seems to me the remote start would make the car less secure as you need to bypass the chip in the key to start it without a key in the ignition or within the proximity of the factory keyless start antennas.
The factory key remote is probably going to be harder to clone than a generic remote fob, ??
Unless you find something that piggybacks the factory system adding more protection ?

Given that the car has one built in, why do you want an additional one? Every time I've seen them installed in different cars they become an electrical disaster after a few years.

    this^

to clarify, the reason he may want a different alarm is because maybe the stock got effed up. or 2 for peace of mind. i mean, i feel like i sneeze louder than the stock alarm.

agree with the electrical nightmare statement though

While there is no way to stop a determined thief, in light of this kind of news http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37057689 and this http://www.scmagazine.com/got-laptop...rticle/508175/ sometimes it will give some peace of mind to have a 2nd non-OEM theft deterrent, even if it's as simple as a hidden toggle switch that you can use to cut power to the fuel pump when you park.

OP must be one of those people who likes to turn the alarms sensor way up so that even a passing butterfly will regularly set it off at 3 AM.

B8's are very hard to steal, thieves are going to go for the Jeeps and Accords.

FYI - aftermarket alarms are very easy to get around, a simple stun gun to the frame of the car and a spark plug to the window and a thief is in your car.

When I purchased my first B8 A4 the dealer told me flat out not to install a remote start or aftermarket alarm because of the current draw the car currently has.

I don't think you have to worry about your car being stolen as much as broken in to and as I've stated above an aftermarket alarm won't do you any good.

Thanks for your reply. I'll keep that mind. As far as the OEM alarm if thieves lift my car to get rims, the alarm wouldn't trigger right?

Correct. You'll need to get a shock sensor or some kind of sensor, don't remember what exactly. There's some kind of aftermarket one or you can do a factory one that @davidb8 did.

I wouldn't worry about it, if they want in they are getting in, if they want it, they are getting it.

I had my car for 1 day and ended up with two door dings while parked at the very back of a grocery store lot simply because some ass decided they needed to "show me" my car isn't special to them. People are just jerks.
