    Jester's B8.5 S5 Build: Revision 1

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have been through a few cars over the years, different setups and different goals. Most recent was the A5 I finished up, it was an amazing looking car but just didn't have the well rounded package like my b6 s4 had (looks, sound and appeal). So I set my sights on a b8.5 s5 because I love the body lines of the A5/S5 , yes both pre and post face lift ; ). I ended up with a 2013 Audi s5, manual, black leather w/alacantara inserts, nav sports diff and driver select. It came the RS5 wheels as well as an added bonus. I really don't know what path I'm going to take with this one , but definitely going to start off with some slow progress.

    Previous Builds:

    Side by side:

    Home:

    Next day:

I had this filter laying around that fit, I got a small filter for the breather and it opened it up a lot. I'm going to get an intake sooner or later but surprisingly just the filter opened up the supercharge whine a little bit: (windows up, dynamic driving mode)

    Later that day:

Car came with a full 3m bra, I was just not a fan of the line it left because only partial hood and fenders were wrapped. I did leave the full bumper bra on though.

    Also later that day:

Pretty much it for now, I sourced a black optics oem grill that will be replacing the RS5. (Which I know I'll get some hate for, but just not a huge fan of the mesh.) Next up will probably be an exhaust, blacked out trim and window tints I think. Not sure how quickly I'll progress but I'm hoping I'll keep this updating unlike my last build .

Also car needs a good ass detail, I told the dealer not to touch before I purchased so I could take care of it myself. I hate that I ended up with another black car but I just love black when it's clean hahah .

Congrats! The RS rotors are a nice perk, and the interior trims look awesome. Lets get those pipes going

Great looking car but why fit a filter that's just breathing hot air, you'll be killing the performance?

    Yes, not a good move.

Congrats on the car, and for finding nice shiny paint under the plastic wrap. Get some paint coating on that and enjoy it while the rest comes together.

Thanks guys! Honestly the only reason I did the filter was that I had it at my house and I wanted more of the whine ASAP. I'm probably going to order a eurocode intake setup after I figure out my exhaust route.

those don't look like rs5 rotors, seem to lack the concavity.

You're 100% correct. They lack offset as well, and are dark. Must be the Hartmann 20x9 ET40.

Yea I suck, I guess the hype of the new car got me distracted slightly. I enjoy the look of them, might source a set of genuine ones, but they will do for now.

    Nice car Jester.

I would black out the trim and add black or carbon fiber mirror caps.

Beautiful car and nice start! The wrap of the mmi trim looks so clean and the flat finish looks oem

I agree about the grill, unless you have an aggressive front bumper like the RS, it just doesn't play right imo. However I've found that a black gloss rs grill plays well with a black car. Even on a4 with the competition plus bumper, I won't put a full honeycomb grill. I think it looks better broken up then a single piece.

Thank you! I'm thinking about doing either gloss or satin black trim and mirrors will be color matched, carbon fiber might be an option I haven't looked into yet. That would match my interior trim because of the carbon..hmm.

Thank you sir! Yea I was gonna wrap it in carbon or gloss black to go for one of the OEM trim look a like options, but I honestly prefer the satin black it matches the rest so perfectly and still goes with the carbon.

Thanks man, seriously love how this sits with the grille now. Next I gotta figure out what route I wanna do with my trim/mirrors l, all in for some opinions!

    1. Color matched trim & mirrors (brilliant black)
    2. Satin black trim and color matched mirrors
    3. Satin black trim and carbon mirrors
    4. Gloss black trim and carbon mirrors

I'll most likely have the trim and mirrors vinyl wrapped so when I say "color matched" it's going to be as close to gloss black as possible.

Side note: ordered some spacers to flush the wheels out all around, I'm also going to wait on an exhaust (as much as it pains me) and going to just do the X-Pipe mode for <$50 just to get a little more pep out of it and put some money away for a tune first and do the exhaust later on down the line.

    Satin black trim
And colored match mirrors for me. Or maybe even a brushed black type for a bit of contrast may b fun

Option 1 or 4....depends how you feel about carbon fiber. Im a fan of it for the interior but only a fan of it on the outside on black cars.

Hmm not sure which well I'll proceed, I definitely think color matched mirrors will happen, just not sure if satin black or gloss black trim will look best. Saw a black optics packaged black s5 today and I did enjoy the gloss trim, but it was also a different shade of gloss compared to the car color.

I'm a little hesitant after just tearing off the 3/4 film that was on there, it wasn't properly kept up so it looked dulled and made the car look awful.

I'm considering looking into a full front end kit, but for now I just left the front bumper on.

Yea, I think I'm leaning towards the satin black trim with color matched mirrors. I might wait till after the winter for this, not 100% sure yet.

As of now I have nothing to update lol, waiting on my 20mm spacers, x pipe and custom floor mats from autostyle.

I decided to go with the common X pipe exhaust mod for now, I'm going to wait till I tune the car next year to go with the full awe exhaust and downpipes all at the same time (unless I fall in love with the X pipe mode, then I'll do larger tips and just cat less downpipes, but I'll see).

Just got my car x piped and the smaller round resonators removed in the "downpipes" stock mufflers and didn't mess with the cats. All together cost me $250. Honestly I'm really happy with the outcome, it rasps a little at 5k+, but honestly I don't know if it bothers me that much. It's definitely not as refined as an awe setup, but for a fraction of the price I'm really happy. I'm considering jus swapping out the two mufflers in the back for some magnaflows down the line and then just doing test pipes and not even buying a "Kit" exhaust but we will see.

Thanks! I didn't think it could sound this good, eventually I'll swap out the rear mufflers/tips and do some catless downpipes, I'll still be under $800 for a "full exhaust." This is still up in the air though.
Spacers make a world of difference even at stock height. Thinking about just doing some H&R sport springs till I decide if I wanna bag it next year or get a good quality set of coils.

Stock suspension but it's on 20" RS5 reps so that plays a role into the little aggressiveness of the stance I assume.

Nothing new really, did a full detail/paint correction/seal on it and finally reinstalled the rear diffuser over the weekend. I tried three different color paints and finally settled on plast tip. The previous colors were either not enough and to flat or too much glass, the dip provided the equal parts but not exactly sure how I feel about the feel of it.

Also my floor mats arrive today, who knew someone could be so excited for fooor mats .

Ask mops or bknewtype what paint they used for their diffusers. Whatever they used looked pretty good. Are you gonna get a plate frame?

Thank you, I'll look into it, is it a textured feel or just a satin matted black finish? Plastic dip is the perfect finish, just feel like the textured "feel" isn't exactly what I'm after.

The diffuser was a nightmare so idk if I wanna spray it again anytime soon .

I went with the audi slimline plate frame. Small and minimalist. People see its an Audi, I don't need the frame to scream audi as well. The gap around the plate and plate mount bothers me so I think it definitely needs a frame of some sort.

It's super smooth like proper paint. Check here.... From this page going backwards, I have it on my fog grilles, splitter and rear valence. Towards the very end, there are two close-up pics...

wurth like mops said, or duplicolor trim paint like I did. I didn't want to order, so I went to a local store, and the results were so SMOOTH.

your A5 was hard to beat visually but it sounds like you are wanting to go a little more tame this time. We just got an S5 cabrio and I am in the same boat. The car feels awesome even on stock suspension. I would be interested to see if you just do springs, I was thinking the same thing.

I totally agree with you on the grille. I am not a big fan of all mesh, to me it looks aftermarket. I think the black optic looks fantastic.

I also think the 20's on stock suspension look way better than I would have thought. If you ever want to get rid of them, give me a shout. I am in CT

That's exactly the look I was going for not sure why I had so much difficulty achieving it , I might see how the dip holds up for now or I probably should do the right think and just order it and bite the bullet it and strip it all off : /.

Yea you kinda just confirmed what I already knew I had to do, strip the dip off and the paint underneath and start from scratch with the correct stuff.

This will make it the third time I have to strip paint off this damn diffuser, it's like it doesn't wanna be black .

Yea for now, the goal is just simplicity and putting some visual touches on it for now, this car won't be driven in the winter so I have some time to decide what else and what route I wanna go. I personally love the way the car sits right now after the spacers and the 20" reps. I know reps are frowned upon by some but the car has a perfect feel right now. I think springs will give the car a slightly more aggressive stance without loosing my ADS, which never having before I do say I enjoy the abilities it has.

Thank you I think when I have the exterior done, the black optics will flow very nicely with the rest of the car when I finish blacking out the other trim pieces.

Side note my floor mats came, don't have a picture yet, but they were worth the money. S5 emblems on the front mats, black piping and grey stitching to match my shifter boot and steering wheel.

I got my 2013 S5 DSG Prestige with every option available on 51k Miles for $29k. Warranty ends at 50k miles so it took a price drop after that.
