    Chip for 2.7t?

Can I get some sort of recommendation on a chip manufacturer. I have 04 2.7t, fast but not fast enough. Have found the APR chip seems to do the most in terms of extra horse and torque, but I am not familiar with the company. Any words of wisdom?

2004 Audi A6 2.7t is what I meant to type. I am looking for chip and possibly a new suspension, maybe lowering an inch or so. Dont know much of anything about the tuners on Audi's, need some guidance.

GIAC X chip makes the most power for the 2.7T, at least on the B5 S4s (same engine). APR is known as the smoothest. Any chip will give that engine huge gains over stock though.

For more details search the B5 S4um. Lots more members on there then in here or the A6 forum.

I was in the same boat as you about 4 months ago...I ended up going with GIAC...and so far, I absolutely love it. It completely transformed my allroad.

It seems that pretty much everyone has their differing opinions about which "chip" is the best. As you may know, some of the "more popular" chip tuners are: GIAC, Revo, APR, and Dahlback (just to name a few).

Many people like GIAC and Revo the best because they offer a "non-physical" chip upgrade. That is, they can simply reprogram your ECU and give you a little gizmo (that plugs into the diagnostic port) that allows you to switch between "stock," performance, and other settings.

I haven't heard many problems with APR...BUT they, at least the last time I checked, did not have a purely "non-physical" chip upgrade....but this may have changed...

Now, Dahlback...it's a darn shame that they don't offer the non-physical chip upgrade because I have heard nothing but glowing reviews about their programming. Supposedly leaps and bounds better than anyone else...I would have used them if they had the GIAC/Revo reprogramming thing going...Also, it may be hard to track down a local dealer...which leads me to my "conclusion."

Find a local tuner that you really like and trust...ask them who they like the best...and use which ever company they suggest. In the end, all of the major companies offer similar performance gains.

I'm certainly no expert on this subject, but I have done A LOT of reseach on the whole "chipping" thing over the last year. So, if you want to hear more about what I heard/read about the different companies, let me know.

    I hope this helps.

Whatever chip you do, if your car is a Tiptronic make sure to get the GIAC Tip Chip to accent the engine chip.

    Hey Surfnturf,

Like I said above, I already have the GIAC upgrade for my ECU...and I love it...

I was considering getting the Tip Chip too, but I haven't yet...actually, when I got the GIAC software, my local tuner told me that the Tip Chip only improves the shifting in tiptronic mode - not the normal automatic mode ("D" or "S")...and he basically talked me out of it.

Do you know if that's true? Does the Tip Chip only improve shifting in tiptronic mode?

It looks like you have the 6-speed...but have you driven a tiptronic with the Tip Chip? What do you think?

    Thanks,
    BoomBoom

Boom Boom: YES it is true, the GOAC X chip only works in Tiptronic mode.
They also give you back your stock chip in case youneed to go to the dealer for major work and want to stwitch back temporarily.
My perf guys says feedback is 50-50 on this tip chip. some love it some hate it. it only speeds up shifting from 1. 0 to 0.2 I think. I am going for it next month.

I have the APR chip on 93 oct with ability to switch back to stock and LOVE it, power gain is huge and it is very smooth!

I have exactly the same car, bought it used 4 months ago and already spent $ on upgrades/mods.
My first one was the Chip. The car is pretty fast stock considering the weight and relatively small engine.. But I needed more ..oomph!
I went to my local shop and they could do both GIAC or APR. He said that the power gain were close, with a slight advantage to GIAC. He says GIAC feels A LOT faster because it is more brutal where APR is smoother across the power band. I drive both highway and city daily, I drive my kids around... so drivability was a factor so I went for APR as recommended by Matt at GMP Performance. I am NOT disappointed at all. It performs real well and drives really good. No gear hunting like some GIAC-chipped cars... However, I do feel the tranny does not help make the most of the new found power. So I am going to try the GIAC X Chip soon.

GIAC v.s APR has been an argument for a long time and it is really a personal choice... I don't think the power diff is that significant... I t also depends on what your local perf shop can do and service.

    Good luck...

True, got the same story here, went APR, my car has some miles on it and considering that Giac gives you like 5+ hp more APR is more turbo friendly, i love it, but i have stick 6 sp...

My APR cip is for 93 OCt, which I always get anyway - the power increase vs. stock was fantastic. They say it is good for 318hp and around 380lbs of torque. It pulls hard but smooth. It is real nice to drive aruond town. The torque is phenomenal.... it just keeps pulling.... J
ust make sure you let engine warm up ( I do 175 degrees) b4 pushing it and let the turbos cool off 30-45 seconds b4 turning off the engine after spirited driving.
Also, keep in mind the tranny is not made for this much torque so I would not drive 100% all the time!:) Just my 2 cents!
Have not done GIAC X yet as they need to keep the car 3 days.
BUt I am gettig used to the Auto/Steptronic and can now launch the car better.
Adding the Miltek exhaust to a 2.7 T chipped cra also adds a lot of power compared to exhaust on an atmospheric engine.
Just a little pricey... sounds nice though! Just test drove an 02 A6 2.7T with APR chip and Miltek, the thing rocked! The guys said (not proven) it pulls about 340-350hp.

I got my ECU flashed yesterday --- NO DOWN TIME --- as it was flashed by a Giac Authorized Dealer.

I'm hooked - this thing pulls so fast. The car is completely stock other than that. My new 710n's will be here in a week, which should help a bit. The stock DVs like to leak boost a bit.

GIAC X maxes out your K03s. In addition to 710s, go with a silicone TBB ASAP.

    ...and so it begins...
