    Identifying Cables/Plugs

I am rebuilding the front end of my 2005.5 B7 S4 after an accident (all cosmetic and cheaper if I do it myself). When the car was returned to me it was without the front bumper cover and the wiring harness that goes with it. My question is what is the connector for to the following pictures? I know the severed cable should be for the fog lights but have no idea what else would be up there.

    Information would be greatly appreciated!

Also, anyone know where I could find the wiring harness for the fog lights and potentially whatever the other plug is? I've looked on multiple sights but see harnesses that have way too many plugs/

its either for the fog lights or the headlight washers for sure. you normally need to disconnect both to get the bumper off

I thought it might be the headlight washers. Looking at the jets on ECS, I can't see anywhere to plug in electronics.

That danged plug broke off on mine. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it as the wire is broken right where it enters the plug.

the headlight washers are hydraulic, they have no electrical connector. i'm trying to remember what that is if it's not the fog light... it's been a few months since i've been in there.

It's for the garage door opener module in the front bumper, and also for the front parking assist if you have that option. As for the harnesses ETKA has them listed; I can look them up when I get home from work.

Okay. The harness for the front bumper, which includes the connections for the foglights and the Homelink module, is 8E0 971 095 T, provided you don't have the front parking assist option, which you don't appear to based on the fact that you only have 2 wires connected to that 10 pin connector.

As I stated before, the 2 wires there are for the garage door opener module in the bumper and occupy cavities 9 and 10 on the connector. Cavities 1-5 are used by the park assist option if it is present on the car.

The other harness is, as you stated, for the fog lamps. Interestingly, the B6 also uses it for the horns, but the B7 apparently does not. Anyway, the connector that has been ripped off of your forward lighting harness there, and mates up to the bumper harness, is 1J0 973 724. However, I can't advise on the terminal or seal part numbers as ETKA lists these in a very confusing manner. It would probably be easiest to go to a wrecking yard and clip off that connector with a long length of wire on it and then use some marine grade sealed butt splices to affix it to what you have there. Alternatively you could replace the entire LH forward lamp harness (8E1971075CB) but this is a $400 harness that includes the connections for the headlight, washer pump, and several other parts, so that's overkill.

    Hope this helps.

Many thanks for that information. Would you happen to know if the A4 harness is the same (at least for the garage door opener)? Just so I have options down at the wreckers.

On the B6, the harnesses are slightly different, but the 10 pin connector is the same. On the B7, the harnesses are the same between A4 and S4, with the exception of cars with park assist and the DTM package (which has no fog lamps).

Since you said your 10 pin connector had the wires break off, you'll probably just be looking to replace that particular part. In that case, it doesn't matter if you get a donor harness from an A4, S4, B6 or B7 because they all have the same connector part number.

I am not an A4 expert, so I don't know if Homelink was an option on the A4's. If not, the B6 A4 harness might NOT have that connector. Otherwise, they should all have it.

also, i believe those connectors are pretty standard. if you have trouble finding a reasonably-priced donor you could just buy a new connector to mount (i think i've even seen them on Amazon).

Yeah, the connectors are not an issue. Finding the terminals and seals, however, is a bigger pain. ETKA has them listed, but the format is very confusing. I spent a ton of time trying to figure it out when I was reconstructing my engine harness. If that guy's wires broke off right at the base of the connector, it would be easier to find a donor harness and just clip a pigtail off.

oh, weird, the shells are usually sold separately from the inner components? i've never had to replace one, just disassemble them.

Yes. The shells are sold with only the terminal lock. I had to replace about half of the ones on my ECU harness as the release tabs were broken (like all 8 ignition coils) as well as many on my B5. Even the grommets for plugs that have them (MAF, for example) are not included. Those, however, are easy to find; the terminals and seals are not. It would be nice if they were denoted along with the connector in ETKA, but they are instead in the separate electrical catalog and although they are supposed to cross-reference to the connectors, it seems that many connectors are missing from the list.

Also, unless you have the proper crimper for those small-gauge terminals, replacing them would be very difficult.

Anyone happen to know the part number for the homelink module that attaches to the front bumper cover? And where on the front bumper cover it attaches?

I can get it after work like before. It attaches on the passenger side, closer to the center than the outside, near, but not attached to, the crash beam.

In the 10th picture from the left on ECS here: https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_S4...per/ES2576153/

You can see the rectangular pocket that it sits in.

*EDIT* Whoops, forgot you had a B7. In the B7 bumper photos, I can't see exactly where it sits. I would imagine the location is similar, but I'd have to consult the Bentley, unless ETKA gives me a clear view of the module location.

I have the bumper cover in my garage and looked for a spot that it might go but nothing popped out to me.

I really appreciate all the help. Thank you!

Yeah, in the photos of the B7 bumper I don't see any mounting provision. I know it has to be up there somewhere though, or that electrical plug wouldn't be there. The problem with ETKA is that for modules, it just shows a generic silhouette of the car with little boxes in the extremely general area of the module, and a number denoting it from the parts list. So you can tell if something is at the front or rear of the car, but not a precise location. The Bentley guide, however, seems to cover nearly every detail of how to disassemble the car (although amusingly I can't find a cylinder numbering order in it anywhere) so it probably shows something more detailed.

Okay. The module is 8E0 909 511 A. As suspected, ETKA was little help for seeing the location, but the Bentley guide had it. The bracket denoted as "3" is 8E0 907 179. Looks like it got moved from right to left between the B6 and B7.
