You have to change a couple of settings, you need the number on the card the sim came in

My SIM card came today but can't figure out how to set it up. Is there somewhere I can find step by step directions? I put the sim card in and under the Telephone settings I tried to set up the data connection. I entered the 10 digit number off the card however it's asking for a username and password. Not sure what to put here or what other settings I need to change.

The only thing I changed was that apn (I believe) number. Don't remember getting asked for a user or pass.

There is another thread on the B8 s4 side search a bit and i'm sure you'll find it.

All you have to do is set Data Roaming to on and then change the APN to fp.com.attz.. and that is it.. no password or anything.

What do you apply your APN ? fp.com.attz Or freedom pop.foggmobile.com ? My instructions gave me that APN...I cannot get this SIM to work...Once you do get it to work, what features are available besides google maps? I can get that ( barely..pixeled) but that is it...No google search for nearby area. What else should we be able to get with this sim card?

I have the same issue. While I get a very good, strong 3G signal in the Atlanta metro area (T-Mobile towers) none of the Audi Connect features work, including Google Maps. I renewed Audi Connect for a single month to validate that it wasn't a tower issue in Atlanta, and all expected services work perfectly. If I try POI search by voice ("Online Destination") I get "The data connection could not be established". If I try to use the Audi Connect menu for Weather, Gas, etc, I get a 403 HTTP response with "Unauthorized". Either Audi is blocking unknown SIM cards (the one that came with my car is registered along with my VIN on the Audi Connect site) or something else is up. Obviously Freedompop is working for a lot of folks, though. My 2013 A4 is T-Mobile only...

Today I've broken the micro-SIM off to test it in an old unlocked iPhone. I figure it may be easier to diagnose if the SIM card works in general or not in a phone rather than my car. I figure I can tape it back together if I have to if I want to try again in the car. I'm real close to just giving up on anything but the authorized T-Mobile SIM working in my car....

Did you activate the service? Not all SIM cards come activated. Mine works fine for everything.

That's strange.. do you have data roaming turned on and have the right APN?

I ran the setup to get the correct APN set on my iPhone (freedompop.foggmobile.com), but still data doesn't work. I originally ordered the wrong SIM cards, so now I have 3 SIM cards on my account, two are their LTE Sprint service, which is useless to me, and the third, the Global SIM, is the one I expect to work both with my unlocked iPhone and the Audi MMI. When I use their app on my phone to send a test text message to my daily phone, it discounts the message against a different SIM in my account, so everything is confused at this point. Their customer support is non-existent. I think my only recourse at this point is to order yet another Global SIM, create a different account under a different email address, and hope that works correctly. However I'm kind of hesitant to throw any more money at a company with such poor customer service, but then what should I expect for FREE, right?

That's a bummer yours never worked for you. I couldn't figure mine out at first as I was trying the freedompop.foggmobile.com that everyone mentions. I finally looked at my card and mine was a diff APN. I haven't seen the weather map that was shared above but I can search online destinations and I see the google earth map. Mine was only confusing because the APN was in the smallest font possible and I missed it.

did you ever get an update to the radio so that it works on ATT? I believe that MY '15 and older only work on Tmobile unless an update was applied. My '16 had no problems at all connecting as it originally came with an ATT sim.

There are two SIMs that FreedomPop sells, the LTE SIM which I think will work with AT&T, but not T-Mobile. I have two myself and in my 2013 A4 get the same results you do - no reception at all. They also sell a Global SIM that is meant to work on any unlocked GSM device, anywhere in the world. In the US, it uses AT&T, or if that's not available, should use T-Mobile. As I mentioned above in this thread, in frustration I put that (Global) SIM in my unlocked (AT&T) iPhone 6 Plus, and while it gets a strong 3G signal, the data connection is dead. Nothing works unless I'm on WiFi. I think Freedompop has issues, and their customer service as far as I can tell is completely non-existent. My experience so far is they ask a question via email about my service request, and then I hear nothing back for a week or two weeks, long enough to abandon hope. I'm waiting for a response now on this issue.

US Mobile worked a year ago, but I think Audi is shutting down unrecognized SIM cards, or VINs that are not authorized with a valid Audi Connect account. I may be wrong about that, but US Mobile stopped working for many of us. I don't know how to install a packet sniffer in my car! :-

As others have indicated, if you can convince the dealer to replace your cellular modem, or pay out of pocket for it, you may have luck with AT&T, or the Freedompop LTE SIM, which I bet you have. If it has an APN that has attz in it, I think that's the non-Global version.

Seems silly to add technology to a car with no means to keep it up. Better to simply integrate with our phones that we updated every 2 years.

Agreed, and the $15 they charge for monthly service through legit Audi Connect is highway robbery. There are a lot of downsides to manufacturers to fully integrating modern smartphones with our navigation systems, specifically aftermarket subscription revenue.

There is a hack to allow the MMI to tether off of your phone (which serves as a hotspot). It requires hardware modification and a certain level of software (connecting things to the back of the MMI, and disassembling the dash, etc) and I'm just not that committed. Google is your friend....

Finally I have successfully had my Global SIM from Freedompop activated. As mentioned, I put it in an unlocked iPhone 6 Plus (was AT&T) where I was able to see that no data was working when properly configured. After a few back and forths with Freedompop support, I finally got them to realize it was a Global SIM and not an LTE SIM card. After that it was done in about an hour. Data started working on the phone, and plugging the SIM card into the car (after reattaching the micro SIM to the regular SIM - snaps back together) saw immediate Audi Connect functionality (weather, gas, etc).

If you are still trying to get this to work in a 2013 (or whatever) year Audi that only supports T-Mobile's 3G frequencies (and live in a place where those frequencies haven't been transitioned) then order a Global SIM and attach it to an email address that doesn't already have any Freedompop services attached.

    Persistence paid off...

I've been trying to decipher this thread. To clarify, you need to get the Global SIM option and not the domestic correct? Also did you get the Global SIM voice+data or just the data or does it make a difference?

I ordered the data only SIM through Amazon Prime. I think it was about $10, but you may find it cheaper. Those with newer versions of the MMI that support AT&T may have luck with the "LTE" SIM Cards that Freedompop offers, but I ended up with a couple of those while trying to get this to work and I didn't even get a signal in my 2013 with T-Mobile 3G only support. At first the Global SIM got a strong 3G signal, but no data throughput and whatever the support person at Freedompop did the other day fixed that (he "added the card to my account" even though I could already see it there). I think my situation was confused by having both types of SIM cards on the account (a single email address). This is why I suggest adding a Global SIM card to an email address that you haven't used with Freedompop before.

    Hope this helps.

Is there a way to tell what version of MMI I have (if it supports AT&T or not)? It is a new to me 2014 CPO with nothing in the service records about a modem update so I have no clue.

Call local parts dept and have them run your Vin or call Audi connect and the should be able to tell you.

    Hi folks,

I realize this is an older thread and I am just a hair off topic, but would appreciate help.

Let's just say for the moment ATT has lost its mind and wants to go from $10 per month to $75 for my Connected Car. SO, I went and bought a Tmobile 2GB a month Sim for $10 a month. This is for my 2016 Q3 3G MMI.

Google maps, online destinations, cell service, Sirius all work fine, but Online Destinations and Audi Connect time out. Is there a setting I missed to activate those? They work again immediately when I put the ATT sim back in.

APN shows automatically for both cards.

    Appreciate any ideas.

    Thanks!

Got my answer elsewhere. Audi controls the Audi Connect / SIM relationship. And supports only AT&T SIMs for those functions.

FTR, it seems FreedomPop selling the cards ~10$, but bestbuy has them at 99cents link

    2017 TT
After my Audi Connect trial ran out, I got a FreedomPop Sim to get data without the Audi/AT&T monthly fee.

Following the instructions listed in the forums, I still cannot locate where in the MMI to put in the APN info to get connected.

Somewhere for APN I'm supposed to enter fp.com.attz
    Any Ideas?

    If I go to
    Connection Manager
    Data Connection
Sim (right click) it gives me:

    Sim Pin
    Bluetooth
    Online Settings
    Wifi Settings

none of the options list APN

It would be under online settings.

In any case I am not sure if this will work in a 2017 TT. For example it doesn’t work in a 2016 Q7 which has something newer than the MMI 3G+. As I understand it, after 3G+ there are greater restrictions on which SIM cards work (i.e. you can only get the service through Audi)
