3M Scratch Removal System faded my car paint!

    hi all.

I recently used the 3M Scratch Removal System https://www.amazon.com/3M-39071-Scra...removal+system

to fix some of the scratches on my passenger door. I followed the instruction but after I finish, I noticed the paint on the spot I worked on faded slightly. Its only noticeable when looking up close or with sunlight beaming at it. My car paint color is silver.

Is there any product I can buy to correct the faded spot and blend in with the rest of the car? Here are some product I'm looking at.
    Meguiar's Ultimate Polish - 16 oz.
    Meguiar's G17516 Ultimate Quik Wax

Sorry no picture, because I couldn't it to show on my phone camera.

    Thank you all in advance.

If you've never done it before, I'd just take it to a pro... because you'll probably need a DA polisher to really get the fade out (unless you bust through clear...) and that comes with its own learning curve.

Could try Chemical Guys VSS scratch and swirl remover. It's basically a super light compound in a polish, providing a single stage compound-polish (redundant is redundant, I know). I've used it on my 2014 CTS and it seems to work pretty well. MAKE SURE you claybar VERY well before using anything though. Otherwise you risk scratching pretty bad. I have no affiliation with Chemical Guys, but their products are great and I definitely will continue to use them.

Does that thing hook up to a drill? Is your drill powerful (fast) enough? That could be the problem. Try a polish and a softer pad.

Yes it hook up to a drill. Could it because I did wet sanding? I did it very lightly.

I'm leaning toward buying this entire bundle

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KHA6ITA...KVTV9JPR&psc=1

and do it for the whole car.

Do you think this is worth the $ and time?

Yes wet sanding will haze the clear... Need to use a very good 3m polish to bring back the shine of the clear... Hopefully you used a very very grit sandpaper.. over 1500.... If bad results still show up.. bring to a reputable detailer to have the door paint corrected.

I used the small sand paper that came with the 3m kit. I believe it's 2000.

It doesn't matter why it happened and it should be repairable. As stated, a professional will be able to fix this better than you trying for the first time. If you cant or don't want to go that route I suggest searching "Ammo NYC" on youtube. This guy has tons of videos that will help you get an idea of what you need to do.
    Good Luck.

I had a similar experience with Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0. I followed their instructions but after I was done the car was not shining like it used to...hazy paint with holograms. I used Meguiar's Ultimate Polish with an orange polishing pad on a porter cable 7424xp and the car was looking almost showroom when I was done.

2000 is still going to be tricky to get out, especially when looking at it in direct sunlight.

Meg's Ultimate Polish or Ultimate Compound will do a lot to get things back to speck, but you'll still want to do something by machine. You need to generate some friction to remove that top layer of haze. If you don't have anything more than a drill, you'll probably see it for a long while, it might be worth taking it to a detailer, or at least going back to the purple pad and spending more time on it, the compound needs to remove more of the refined surface scratches.

Let me add, a wax kit won't undo the damage. The sand paper appears to be 3000. There's really no difference in wet sanding or dry sanding with it.

Thanks for all the inputs. I went back to use the 3m compound and apply it with hands this time. Took me half an hr but now the haze is 95% gone. Then I brought the ultimate Polish and wax and the car paint/shine looks 99-100% balance out.

I'm. Not sure if it was the sand paper. Im thinking it was my drill or the way I apply it.

    Thank you all again.
