Had a local place paint it for me.
He just used some high temp primer and high temp spray paint.
    Then added the decals.

Mercedes gl 550 rotor will not work will post pictures later the offset needs to come away from the knuckle not sure how much. If you go inwards I believe it will interfere with the knuckle.

These are the pictures I took of the the caliper position with a loaded caliper. So now someone needs to find a rotor with a different et or whatever they call the offset.

    My a4 stock size rotor

The stock and Mercedes rotor had the same hat height. Not sure how much it needs to step out to be viable.

Which disc exactly was the Mercedes one? And did it touch the knuckle when mounted?

have a spare knuckle and hub to try stuff on.

    Thanks James

    B8 brakes / q7 18z calipars

Nope didn't touch the knuckle. Is the knuckle and spindle the same on the A5 cause there are some for $100 on eBay I'll order that and it'll be easier than taking my wheel off and all the brake components every time.

Oh the first picture was Mercedes the brand new one on the left. It's really not that much bigger than my a4.

Yeah it should be a big help having a knuckle! Was the disc the gl550 one?

Yep the gl550 brakes are a direct match for our existing calipers as far as offsets are concerned but now we need a rotor with about an inch shorter top hat

Ordered spacers to push the rotor out. Anyone found a rotor with a shorter hat height yet? What's the hat height on an Audi A6 356mm rotor? I do have a rear 356mm x 22 mm rotor brand new that I was test fitting for my rear it'll definitely clear the caliper.

Has anyone managed to find a setup with this caliper which works on a B8??

Does anyone know if the rotor made for the B5 RS4/S4 would fit the B8 centre bore?
    https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catal...-s4-p-442.html

Saw these the other day but I suspect they also have the centre bore issue and aren't available until February which doesn't help

The ones they use on the b5 the hat is to tall I am searching for a rotor with a shorter hat. From the pictures the 356 A6 might work just need to find the time to procur one and fit it

This is really interesting, I wonder if ECS tuning might be able to check the rotor hat size between the 345mm and 356mm rotors for us... was looking on Carid and they do give some dimensions for the Stoptech OEM replacement disc for the A6/A7, looks like the hat is around 18mm from my calculation https://www.carid.com/stoptech/drill...27-33134l.html

Do you see any issues with the 356mm diameter being an issue for the 18z caliper or not? If this does fit, it's a great cheaper brake upgrade for the B8, especially with the calipers on sale on ECS right now!

Looks like Rotor Lab can make custom brake rotors, if we could with the exact size needed (hat height, diameter, etc) maybe they can make some for us

I suggest contacting either JHM or Racing brake, they both make conversion rotors for B5-B6/7. It would be a matter of just releasing new hats for rotors they already have.

Well somehow I missed this I promise to open all my boxes this weekend and pull this stuff back out. I got side tracked buying an Audi C5 avant and working on it. Needless to say that was money thrown out of the window and I tossed the whole car. I have spacers to mock up the 350 rotor and the 356 so I can get a better idea of what size hat is needed. Yes we could do custom rotors but then you're knocking your self out of the cheap brake upgrade department. Now if there was a place for a custom 2 piece for weight reduction that would be golden because the 350 x 34 is definitely a huge chunk of steel. If I don't post anything by Monday shoot me a pm so I won't miss this again.

Well I have a beautiful 356 mm brake from A6/A7/A8 as far as roundness goes it fits beautifully. As far as hat height it's stupid. I was able to get a shim on it to measure the difference in the hat height. The problem I foresee is the hat height needs to be at least flush with the face of the rotor and then shimmed behind it or grind away half of the mount on both of them.

I used this shim to raise the rotor level and figure out the difference

I had an epiphany 18z is out the window now on to 17z with the pads from the 18z. I need 15mm to come out of the mounts so some off the spindle and some off the caliper. Or 380 mm rotors, is this what we really want? Technically 386mm since I'm measuring off the 356mmx34mm rotor from the a6-8.

FYI, SQ5 uses an OEM 380mm rotor (floating too) and the hat offset is approx 12-15mm. And the SQ5 & S4 use the same knuckle, hub etc...

I was trying to get JHM to sell me their bracket & caliper from of their 19z / 382mm kit to see if it bolted up to my OEM rotors. But they're weren't having it. I wonder...

How are you planning to fit larger than a 330mm disc under the 17Z calipers?

Ok I've got a 380 rotor but the son of a bitch is 36mm thick so the pads have clearance but I'm going to need to trim the rods the pads ride on but it's not that much trimming so I'm going to go after it with a cut off wheel.

The 15mm trimming I was discussing is not in front or behind the mount I mean in between the mount. Gonna use a piece of flat steel with holes to push the caliper away from the knuckle. The 380 mm rotor I assume is going to need a 19 inch wheel though. But I don't have an 18 to test with just 17 and 19. If you wanted to jump up to the Audi s6 brake rotor at 400 mm then all you'd have to do is some spacers and flat steel for the 17z caliper.

Yes the 17z on a Porsche or Volkswagen sits on a 320 mm rotor but that is due to the mounting position. That's why the 18z utilizes a 350 mm rotor. The mount on the mono block caliper pushes it further away from the center.

Bumping this thread, anyone know the offset spec on the b6/7 s4 rotors??? I know the centerbores are different but I am a machinist and could easily open up the center bores and keep it concentric to +or- .0005 not that it needs to be that precise I'm just bragging a little

The mounting points are the issue not the rotors. The b8 designers have placed the caliper mounts in the exact spot the 18z and 17z need to be. To mount on the back side of the mount the rotor will be against the spindle. If you mount on the face of the caliper mounts the face of the rotor will past the wheel mounting face.

I still haven't trimmed the 17z rotor guide pins to accept the 380 rotor. The 380 gets you far enough away from center to use a piece of flat steel.

The easiest solution is removing material from the caliper mounts. Which for liability reasons I would never recommend anyone to do.

This looks like a pretty dead post.
    I have a set of bm5, 17z and 18z calipers.

What options have been tried and failed?
I can run to the local junkyard and buy damn near every type of rotor needed for cheap. They practically give rotors away at scrap value +20%
