I bought an American Made tow hook mount, or something along those lines - Aluminum and very well-made. The problem is it's a PITA to get installed correctly without scratching something, and no matter what, vibrations would have the chance of spinning the license plate down. If this does happen, it will guarantee scratch your bumper bad (more likely gouge).

I ended up taking it off and going plate-less in the front. I keep it in the trunk in case I get pulled over so I can throw it on for the Fix-It-Ticket, but then I'd just take it right back off. I haven't gotten pulled over in the ~10-11 months I've had the car, and I doubt I will unless I really do something wrong. Car looks better without a plate anyway.

I have the plate velcro'd to the passenger visor, and just flip the visor down whenever I encounter police inside CT. outside of CT I don't give a shit, they can KMA.

If a cop asks why the plate is not on the bumper I simply explain that I have a new grille (RS4) which doesn't come with a built in plate holder and that I have a custom one on order. I further explain that I have it displayed on the visor to comply with the law while I await the new custom holder.

I think they look bad. Think about getting a retractable license plate mount. Manual or electric.

For +$100 I'd rather pay a ticket and still pocket some change.... that's a rip off for a piece of metal.

That's the one I bought. It's really good quality, and I'm sure it would work, but it's a ****ing pain to install without scratching anything. The bolt isn't long enough to screw it all the way in but keep the plate stationary on the pivot. It hits the body well before it's screwed in tight.

Ya...that's not legal, at all. In all states that require a front plate, it must be securely fastened and easily visible to a passing officer.

You might say "But it is and it is", but when the cop says it isn't, it makes no difference what you think. If you took it to court and the cop said he couldn't see it easily from a distance of (whatever he wants to say), you have no rebuttal.

This is all true. I had the same issue when I first got my car, and was ticketed for no front plate even when it was displayed on the dash. The judge was my elementary school principle though, so it was dismissed.

What do you normally run? I will be putting on an RS4 grille on in a few weeks and need to find a good mounting option.

    Don't care. That's one thing I loath. I'd rather pay a ticket.

I am with Danny, I have been stationed in MT for 25 months and never had a front plate. My old jeep (now wife's) was bought in AZ so no front plate needed and the bumper doesnt have the holder so its been sitting in the glove box, never an issue. Got my S4 in Nov and again no plate holder as I bought it in CA. Ive been pulled over twice too and not once has a cop said anything.

Nothing at all. Looks way better.

I agree. I've had this car for just shy of 11 months, and I haven't been pulled over or ticketed yet. I live in Cleveland, and Ohio is on the verge of getting rid of the front plate law, so that could be part of the reason...but right now it's still illegal, and they don't seem to care much.

Also, I found out I actually have the iJDMTOY tow hook (bought from Amazon), so I have this specific model.

I don't run one and the whole tow hook thing isn't for European luxury cars. Its more for the JDM market. I think its an eye sore. But that's just my thoughts. If anything I would mount mine behind the grill and on the crash bar if I wasn't lazy. But Yes it has to be displayed on the front of the car only. Actually you can get 2 tickets for having it on the dash if the cop wanted. Once for failing to properly secure front plate and 2nd for view obstruction in the windshield. I have got 2 warnings for not having mine. I just said the car was new which it was. And 2nd the cop gave me an excuse. He said you hit a deer or something. I was like YUP you got it, the bracket is on order lol.

When I bought my RS grill I ran the US Millworks tow hook one. I'd say it's the best due to having the most "flexibility" in positioning it exactly as you'd like.
I ended up removing it and not using anything. I just don't think they look good. If I had to run a front plate I'd just afix it to the center of the grill with one of these http://www.amazon.com/Cruiser-Access...e+plate+holder (which I've had sitting in the garage for years).

OP - for 30 dollars you will get a 30 dollar product... The wrong positioning of the front plate can make or break the look of your car. I've seen some hideous looking placements which really make the car look terrible.

Thanks for the responses. VA police is monstrously strict, and I hate having my grill obscured.

I was about to buy US Mill Works, but like someone said previously, $100 for a piece of metal is overkill. The retractables are quite expensive too...maybe I should just live with it if there is no cheaper option.

For +$100, pay the ticket, and still have change to put in the kitty.
