    Question A4 quattro b7 2.0 performance upgrades

    Hi all,

i have a 06 quattro 2.0 6sp with a few mods since 2011/2012 bought the car in 08. currently it has a 3" test pipe, a BSH PCV block off plate, GIAC tune (Stock/pump/race fuel), foam ECS air filter, and ECS upgraded piston diverter valve, hi-perf ECS coil packs. all basic stuff. in last few years gas quality has dropped and now have to use octane booster or a few gallons of VIP race fuel to even use the pump tune, much less the race tune.

i love the car and it still only has 46,800 miles, US car i brought to costa rica where i live. now for my questions:

i want to do a turbo upgrade and associated requirements, with new tune for the changes. i prefer to be able to use pump gas as VIP gas here is $30 a gallon (octane additive ok), and still pass emissions inspection which i cannot right now without taking the 3" cat bypass out and pulling the BSH block of to use the PCV.

my goal is about 350-350 crank HP and prefer to have good low end and mid range as top speed don't interest me. my friends here all all over the board saying get a frankenturbo, or a chinese one (kits of $1200) other say better a tuners kit using stock mounting with a GT28RS etc.

my budget of parts is about $3K, tune and labor will be extra. also can't seem to tell from some of these kits if a HPFP upgrade is required or optional, same with the injectors to S3/ S4 or RS4?

so many variables its confusing. can those that have done this help me out here, also i want to keep driving this car another 6-8 years but it is not my primary (that is a Q5). as the motor is coming up on 50,000 what other things should be changed or upgraded, rods, rings?, head items valve train, belts etc.

i have been changing the cam follower on the fuel pump every 15,000 miles, oil every 5K miles and put ceramic pads last brake job. 2 months ago completely replaced the front and rear suspension arms and bushings to frame as our roads suck. car is very tight now.

I've seen kits from KMD tuning, JHM, ECS etc but all are different and vary greatly in price. any help advice is greatly appreciated.

    thanks in advance
    rick

Being that you are in Costa Rica, do you have someone that can tune the car based on the setup you want?

Id say get a KO4 kit from one of the vendors and a few supporting mods and Bam you got race kar. CTS has a pretty reasonable $$$$ kit and I think it can be all done with tune for about 3k less labor to

yeah CTS kit+unitronic2+ (335bhp/335tq), require S3 injector, HPFP upgrade, of course k04. And all the other upgrades required by lower tunes.
    Inter-cooler recommended.

For reliability, 1.8T oil pump upgrade is recommended. (this will require pressure monitor to be sure that everything is ok)
If not, chain tensionner for pump/balancer shaft must be inspected and/or changed.

PCV block off plate is not recommended.

For 3k$: stock will be used . You have no choice.

Yeah there's a bold note at the bottom.

Go to the website of the note and you'll see the tune requirement. Or reread my previous post.

Sorry I mite have under estimated the $$$$$. I forgot that I upgrade my tune from APR stage 1 to APR KO4 for $100.00 fee. You can skip the the fully assembled modified HPFP and go with internals which will save you $$$$. I suggest IE and yourself. Stock fuel rail is fine for KO4. I didnt do the AWE FMIC until a year after I did the KO4. The smic fine

Id stay away from the Ebay chinese F23L or the FT23L. Which is basically the same quality anyway. Alot of the had premature failures from them.

ok so ruled out the GT big turbo kits as i want to have low and mid power and ruled out the frankenturbo as reliability issue for a DD, so looking a K04 options dont see to many builds spec'd here.

i can buy the turbo kit, with full custom tune and full logs until right for about 2K, need to add the HPFP kit and weld a K04 flange to down pipe (have a 3" hi flow cat now on car).
after that what would you say is really important as i am hoping for about 335-345chp.

some say the stock injectors are fine up to 280g/s other say no, some say need a rs4 LPFP controller, here is the issue where i live typical temps are 72-95 year round, and elevations run 3400 to sea level within 45 min drive. car is used 4 days a week but do have a Q5 TDI DD also.

really like to hear from guys running K04 in there DD as to best options. upgraded DV, better coilovers, etc

thanks to everyone for keeping me out of the Frankenturbo .... i plan to keep diving this 2006 2.0 quattro another 8 years with luck.

I daily my APR KO4 car like . Its has held up well with 230k mil on it. Did all mods at 160k miles. I ed RS4 LPFP controller to keep from getting into the limp mode when the CEl would trigger from fuel cuts on wot. All tunes that is written for the KO4 mod will require a modified HPFP and S3 or RS4 injectors. The S3 injectors are preferred.

thanks for your reply. do you do S3 injectors then? did you change your fuel rail pressure value to higher bar? what other mods and who's tune do/did you run APR i am assuming?

    thanks

Hi Jake have did look at your current kit but felt it was not going to be easy to pass emissions once a year as required here. have any more info on your K04 kit coming, will be as complete as the big turbo kit now? any pre-pricing info or HP goals?

    thanks
    Rick
