    Make supercharger louder

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I did a search and got mixed and dated results, so posting a newer post here.

Is there a way to make the supercharger louder without voiding the warranty? It sounds great when you can get a very faint capture of the sound, but I want it to scream a bit louder.

The stealership near me said I could tune the car at a local shop and the shop could erase the codes when I bring it back in for service intervals. Not sure I trust that and also big pain if anything urgent with the car comes up, like a failed engine component, for which I'd have to bring it to my tuner first.

I heard of intakes which could be the best bet but and if that's the case which ones are reliable and great sound with the supercharger? Not really sure swapping for an aftermarket intake is an actual enhancement to the vehicle.

I have a 2013 s5 with 14k miles, warranty has 3 years / 100k miles so it's important, especially with German cars like these that break consistently and cost thousands to repair. Gotta love planned obsolescence.

Maybe there is no solution here, which is sad, but I have to think there's a way. Partially the reason I bought the car instead of leasing was so that I could modify it a bit. If every mod comes at the expense of the whole warranty, then what's the point?

    Thanks in advance

A more open intake. You might try just taking the top off of the filter box. It muffles the sound.

    Awesome, thanks everyone.

I'm surprised intake alone would make that much of a difference. I was thinking I'd have to tune the supercharger for more pressure, faster pulley speed, etc.

    Make supercharger louder

With an open intake, the sc sound is louder than the exhaust sound. A bit to much for me but it's up to you. I went with awe sflo to just hear a little sc whine. If you want go with a lot of sc whine, go ecs.

In what way is that a joke?

Product performs exceptionally well, is manufactured and assembled by hand, and is extremely high in quality.

Sure, Lead times have been very long in the past but what do you expect with a product that is produced one at a time by one single person by hand? The dude put in 12+ hours just about every day running his shop and making intakes.

They have since added staff and moved to a much larger facility that allows them to produce intakes at a faster rate.

^ Well I wouldn't say the quality is high compared to whats on the market now or at least the last year or so. One man shows can't cut it these days though I do give him credit. The lead times are the longest now more than they have ever been (4-5 months). His online customer support his horrible. He straight up lies to a great amount of people about shipping times and doesn't respond to anyone electronically. He is full of excuses constantly. There are quite a few threads over the last two years about his BS and there seems to be a new one started daily. The added staff and facility don't seem to be doing anything for him at this point. He has pretty much given up on this forum because of the crap he spews and then tries to cover up his problems, nobody is buying it anymore.

Mine was delayed, albeit I was compensated for my delay. For the price, the Roc Euro is by far the best. The sound is also incredible. Sorry ECS but $500 for an intake is much too expensive for my goals and the Roc Euro does it just fine for my needs.

CTS in my opinion is better then the Roc, the billet breather bracket instead of a zip tie and the shield mounting is better also. ECS has one for a comparable price to the Roc and it is nicer in my opinion. No need to spend 500 on one. You can get the CTS on sale quite often for 280.

Yup, most can agree there have been/ still are some flaws but they are seriously improving their business model for sure. The additional staff and new shop has allowed him to introduce intakes for just about every current forced induction VW and Audi platform now, all while running a brick and mortar shop that offers tuning and installation services.

If you want answers, give him a call. hiding behind the computer screen and posting things to publicly shame the company won't accomplish anything. It's not like a big shop that has a 3-5 person customer service team that monitors the forums and social networks for questions and private messages. The guys are either working on cranking out more intakes, or doing work on whatever S or RS was scheduled to be in the shop that hour. Could they use more help? Absolutely. And I have been told that plans are in the works to hire at least one or two employees with dedicated in-person and online customer service roles.

Lead times are not even close to 4 months currently. There were a few isolated incidents with less than a handful of customers who have been waiting for a couple of months but John works to resolve those on an individualized basis. He'll refund orders of folks that don't want to wait because quite frankly, there's always another person that's next in line that would gladly scoop up his product at full retail.

I'm really not interested in arguing. You'll have your opinions, I'll have mine. Agree to disagree. You won't change my opinion as a frequent customer.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm partial because they're a local business that helps me with my car pretty frequently. I get to see the real behind-the-scenes workings of RocEuro and can say that they are always hard at work. It's not like they sit around and delete customer emails and watch the phone ring (like many poorly misinformed people claim on their threads - ok, exaggeration, but there are many misconceptions of what goes on in there). They'll even close the shop completely in order to get intakes out the door.

The very last thing I'll say is that that they are truly good people with great intentions, but need a larger workforce to fully accommodate the high demand for their products. In the end, that's whats really at the root of the frustration that intake customers have.

I may have heard wrong, but I believe official guidance from audi is to flag your car TD1 with a revised intake (they have to enter it into the system manually)?

Huge fan of John. He's a good dude, and I've owned three of his intakes. I simply order, and wait. If it comes in a week, fine. If I don't see it for 4-6 weeks, that is fine too. I don't even have time to worry about something so minor. I know as soon as the parts are in, and it's assembled, he'll get it to me. If you must have it right away, go with another vendor. Easy as that. He gets so bogged down, and experiences delays he cannot control. And then you have 100 customers hitting him daily after two weeks have passed, freaking out. And this time of year is the WORST! AWE leads are triple+ what they were two months ago, and custom wheels... same. No one can keep up. Maybe everyone should hire forecasting analysts

While I believe John is probably a good guy, he continuously bullshits customers with false promises and ship dates and fails to answer customer communications. There are literally several threads every week from different people complaining about missed ship dates, repeated unanswered communications etc.... I understand missing a ship date every now and then, but it's hard to say he has good intentions when he's continuously done the same thing over and over again for the past year plus.

There was one thread yesterday where John told a guy he was just waiting on the filters for his RS7 intake, and his that it would ship by the end of the week. That was FIVE WEEKS ago. He was given another BS excuse and ship date two weeks later, and has not had any communication since.

Total BS, and I'm not sure how anyone can really defend his business practices at this point, honestly. That's an atrocious way to run a business. I hope he can turn it around.

Roc-Euro is a great intake that will definitely meet your requirements for hearing the supercharger. Just know before you order that you'll never know when it will come, and don't expect it before 4-6 weeks. If you are a patient person who doesn't care about being able to get in touch with them or about receiving tracking or shipment notifications then go with Roc-Euro. With that said, you don't need to, there are similar intakes that have better customer service, faster ship times, may or may not have a better quality product and might in fact be cheaper. Good luck.

I'm not up on the v6T S5 since I have the 4.2. But if I did go to the B8.5 hell that is the first mod I would do.

I would overnight the damn thing lol. The supercharger whine is sweet though!

You made me click the video, I really fell about, my son raced R/C. Is this the sound ppl want? I'd hush that noise down urgently, you started with the wrong engine for sound. Make it fast and quiet instead, I put an APR stealth exhaust on a chipped 2.7T S4 to do just that, at the other end, but the noisy bit was at the other end too in those.

it really depends on the dealer in regards to being manually flagged, and it helps that my dealer is also an authorized GIAC tuning center. I had none of my car modifications off on my last service (034motorsports intake tube, my AFE filter, my Chipwerke Pro, my aftermarket JHM pulley w/ aftermarket belts, my GIAC tunes, they were fine with it and never manually flagged me. In fact, they encouraged me to NOT have my car hooked up to audi diagnostic software during that service to reset anything and instead used other means to reset the service reminder.

I was also explained by the service manager that the powertrain warranty will be a case-by-case basis and not altogether voided, but they will work hard in their end (its to their benefit to get warranty items covered as its $$ for them) to make sure they explain powertrain-related failures are not related to my modification, however if they do trace it back to the modifications that they cannot falsify this and I will pay out of pocket. I understood, it's been a good relationship so far with them.

Is the full carbon kohlefaser a closed airbox design? (Meaning is it quieter than open filter designs?)
I have a roc euro intake now, and it's too loud for my liking. Somewhere between stock and what I have now would be perfect.

It's not completely sealed but you could consider it a closed airbox design.

I honestly can't tell the difference between our open filter designs and the closed. Maybe with the hood open and revving it but with it shut its pretty close to identical.
