I just went to check. When I started the vehicle the strip on the door flashed red. But there is no setting to turn it on as ambient all the time in MMI that I can find.

Yes! Ok so if cannot change color, can they at least stay on?

Unfortunately, the wire harness (splitter wire) that came with the led strip is different and is a 4 Pin connector , obviously for the RGB feature. Do i need to modify my harness to make it fit to my connector?

Now i am confused, do the P+ and Prestige footwell light connector is different than the base premium model? I know they changed the connector from the B8 to the B9.

This is what my connector looks like for my footwell light (new version):

And this one is the wire splitter harness that I need to piggy back on an existing connection on the car:

For the people who own a P+ or PP, which connector do you have for your foot light?
Very Interested as well. Only looking to add ambient lighting to the dash in white colour only!
Anyone has some insight or done the connection? I do have the P+
    Thanks

I bought the dashboard trim from one of the seller but did not use their harness, i fabricated my own ( see youtube video posted above). I can control the footwell lights (front and rear) as well as the dash light and the center console too( just added recently after i made that youtube video).

i went a different route and fabricated my harness pretty much and connected to a Bluetooth module that is powered by the 12v cigarette port.

I can now control the lights with my iPhone. ill make a video again to show it.

The hard part maybe is to take your MMI and dashboard apart, it is not too hard, take your time , have some plastic trim removal tools and your basic tool kit and you will be fine, lots of videos that show you how to.

My car does not come with the LED modules to change the color. Initially, I wanted to do a full conversion and after looking into it, it did not make sense to spend close to 1k for some LED.
On aliexpress, they sell the light strip bar (more like an optic fiber strip) integrated into the plastic trim that run across the dashboard (it is replacing the factory plastic trim, so it is a perfect fit, i encountered 0 issue in fitting it). I also bought the carbon fiber trim with the fiber strip in it. Total for both was probably less than $200. I did not use the harness that came with both because it is made to piggy back on the existing factory set up if you have the LED package.

Here is the dashboard trim i am referring to:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...35110701%22%7D

So in order to control the light, i went on amazon and bought a bluetooth LED module with those silver connectors like this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/LEDCARE-Inter...bap_d_rp_114_t

I did not use any of those cheap fiber optic strip from that bluetooth kit, i only use the silver LED heads and connected them to the dashboard trim and the center console trim. I believe the hole for the silver head has to be at least 6 mm in diameter to fit the optic fiber strips. I hope it makes sense.

Here where I bought the 6 mm LED emitter lamps to fit my whole setup:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3295...651b4c4dfGfnql

It also comes with 4 footwell lights that you just stick where the factory lights are, easy enough, then it is a matter of hiding the wires.

Now, every time I get into my car i can change the color with my phone, it automatically connects to it, Or i can choose to completely turn it off as the entire thing is powered with the cigarette lighter port. Everything is reversible and does not need to cut any wiring and such.

Sorry if my whole explanation is a bit messy.

wasnt messy at all. i appreciate the explanation and all the links man! Doesnt sound too hard, just wish that there was a way to integrate it without using the cig port but i dont use that anyway so nbd. thanks again for this.

Thanks for the detail update! Any thoughts on just connecting the dash trim light kit to the existing under dash lighting wiring?
Appreciate the effort you put into getting this done.

It depends if your car is equipped originally with the LED package or not. If you have the factory changing ambient light, then yes the kit (whether it is for the dashboard or the center console) comes with a harness that piggy back on the existing connectors. I believe it uses the footlight connector to power up (or cup holder if it is the center console trim you are replacing). The Harness has some circuit board to communicate with the factory module that controls color changing.

If you don't have the LED color changing feature, then pigging back on the footlight (which is essentially just white) won't work. It is purely a positive and negative connector (2 pin connector), it only delivers electricity, no data, so no color changing. In addition, connectors are different on cars that have the LED package and the ones that do not. At first, I fabricated my own harness to power up some LED, but with that route, there was no way of controlling the color. That is why i opted for the Bluetooth module I linked above from Amazon.

In order to have the feature to change color, it is not just a matter of powering the LEDs, it is much more complicated and involves coding and purchasing a bunch of modules for each part of the car that light up ) . I initially cut the harness that is used to piggy back and was trying to by pass the circuit board. depending which part of the circuit i was giving power, it would change the color of the LED. Not ideal, I would've been stuck with the color i pick, if that makes sense.

I scratched that, and decided to just use the Bluetooth module which is independent in terms of being powered and in terms of controlling the color, and reversible, less intrusive for the car, and has a fuse integrated too, safer.

How did you change the color of the footwell lighting? I've got a 2021 B9.5 Technik (Prestige) and the footwell lighting stays white LED, doesn't change color with the rest of the ambient lighting.
