Is there anyone here able to tell me the specs on a b5 a4 after doing the swap to the 4.2. Whp? Torque? Top speed? Anything like that. I'm strongly considering this swap

I'm also looking for 0-60 times as well and I don't recall seeing the torque or top speed though.

Search, all depends on what 4.2 what mods/tune and what trans. The info is out there. It's not gonna be fast but should be quick enough. If your serious talk to nollywood or someone with the 4.2 your planning.
Hint check the tech/projects and build forums for threads.

There's no easy answer to your query, there are so many variants of the V8, different transmission ratios, final car weight etc. V8 engines can be split into groups.

    4.2 V8 40V Quad Cam. 340hp / 410Nm. Audi S4 B7, 2004-2008.

I have carried out 6 V8 swaps from 2000-2016, using the 077-series 32 and 40V motors. I can tell you one thing - none have been the same, spec will always vary, so will performance to a degree. Different ECU's with different factory tunes, different transmission (01A / 01E) types. Both 5 and 6-speed transmission can have a mixture of ratios.

Intake set-ups can also affect how power is delivered. Weight of your car can also vary with factory options, as well as whatever custom deletes you choose - aircon delete being one of the biggest mechanical weight reduction routes you can take.

I have not really pushed any of my swaps the way I would like to. However this summer, I am driving to Germany via France, so I can push the car on the Autobahn, see what it can do. I am also looking at a weekend at the Nurburgring.

I drive a 2001 2.8 quattro. I thought about putting a turbo on it but the engine hasnt been taken Care of very well and is over 200k. Plus I like the sound of the v8 better.

The V8 is not everyone's choice. However, it's my favourite. Make the choice that best suits your budget, goal and driving style.

Like no1 has, and I'm talking starting with the a4 block not S4.
It's just gonna be a money pit unless you actually know cars and don't rely on others for build ideas. Look around you Will find like none. Or alot of threads started by new members that go nowhere and have the same arguements/posts in them.

In short unless you have alot of money to blow.
Buy a 1.8t and build that or buy a s4 and build that or 4.2 swap.
Best logical 30v setup is pes g2 kit.

Personally if ur working with a 01 30v qm I would find a s6 Or a6 4.2 to swap in and be done with it. I see a6s around me for. Under 1k regularly.

There is a 4.2 swapped avant for sale for 4500 already done also semi near you

I just can't seem to get into the avants. As far as the 1.8t goes I have seen too many and don't wish to go that way. I saw the thread on the single turbo based off the s4 build and it didn't seem to be much of a money pit if anything it seemed cheaper than buying the sc. And way more of an outcome. But I do see where you are coming from. I think I will do the v8 considering my b6 is over 200k already.

    Umm cheaper than sc no..
You gotta read more the sc is a bolt on and done clutch needed.
For quality stuff for the stk I'd have atleast 7k budgeted. Tuning, clutch, mounts, internals, quality fmic, list goes on. As far as I remember the 034 kit is piping and turbo/wastegate@ 3.2k for jb turbo.

Yep and my v8 guess for budget including a 1k a6 (2001) would be 4000. Keep in mind you can part out the a6 body/interior and your old 30v motor. And that's with all quality parts and some extra for anything that comes up. Can it be done cheaper yes, but I would want to do it right over what's cheapest.
Hope you go for the v8 swap I plan to eventually and have half the parts sitting for a future car.

It was close between the v8 and the 2.8t but I do like the sound the v8 makes. but what all would you be including in your budget for the v8?
