    Bumper Adjustment or Hood Adjustment

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Long story short I had the front end of the S4 repaired including a new hood and bumper cover. The lines do not seem to be as tight as when I bought the car (photos attached).
I searched and about the only thing I could find was the following adjustments found here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ll-Replacement and some other post about b8.5 hood/bumper gap.

    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __

I used this adjustment and got the front bumper cover flush and uniform across the front end, before the hood appeared to have an extreme overbite

Is this the adjustment to raise the bumper and close the clearance a bit ?

Or is this something as simple as adjusting the hood latch catch down (I know this is adjustable on my F250 as I had to mark it when I installed the intercooler).

Why not take it back where they did the work and ask them if they can adjust it?

BC they're slow and want me to schedule it out and they have the car an entire day. If it's something I can quickly adjust I'd rather do that. They are also closed on the weekends and with my work schedule it makes things cumbersome.

Something is not lining up correctly, see your last photo tongue like thingy is not going into the corresponding groove. Take it back to the people who worked on it.It may be more complicated than you can handle , especially if you are not a skilled body shop person.

Probably your bumper. In the last pic, it also appears that your headlights are also off and not sitting flush. The inner part appears to be too deep in while the outer part is too far out casting a small shadow on your bumper

Well as much as I hate to say this, what else do you guys see? Almost want to go to the Audi dealer and park next to another white S4 and note the differences.

Do or could any of you guys post clips of various front end shots of your cars so I can take them photos as documentation please?

the hood adjustment primary allows you to adjust the height of the hood in correlation with the fenders. If currently level there, any adjustment to benefit the bumper will be so drastic the fender to hood adjustment will now be off.

The bumper sits on slotted bolts - that's where you'll want to adjust (near headlights).

You talking about the last or second to last photo I posted?

Looking at what you mentioned, it appears the hood is slightly lower than fenders. If I run perpendicular to the fender/hood gap.

was it replaced with a OEM bumper or aftermarket? It looks like something is fitting right with it. Either the headlights are out of wack and causing the issue or the side clip pieces aren't catching right. Just looks stretched out, doesn't looks like the hood is the issue IMO.

theres a torx adjustment screw directly behind the grille. it's under the grille cover itself and is attached behind the rings and comes down to the crashbar. i don't recall the orientation but turning it pretty much raises the front upwards, making the lines closer to the hood.

match the hood and fender height, then mess around with the bumper adjustment.

It also looks like the passenger side headlight needs adjustment - it should sit flush on that edge.

This alignment of the bumper and hood- is this something to worry about if I replace my grill?

yes and 99% no. just make sure the tabs on the side of hte bumper when it slides back are aligned. The big thing for you will be the two tiny adjustments found in the 2nd to last photo in my OP. you can see the ribs, if you note the depth just put it back to that same ridge. They are at the top just under the radiator cover close to the headlights.

    Me, driver error.

    I am 3rd car at a light.
Light turns green everyone starts rolling.
    Look down adjust radio
Look up, 1st car that was going straight has now decided to turn right
Slams on brakes comes to a stop Turns right into that oncoming lane (virtually through the intersection)
    2nd car checks up
3rd car, me, hits 2nd car.
    1st car hauls ass away

Impact didn't set off any airbags or crash sensors.

Is what it is, moral of the story don't look down to adjust your radio and learn to use the steering wheel entirely.

That bill was amended for two headlights as well another $2500. I tried to ecode and they refused. My other lights fogged up the days following receiving the car but it was winter and in a heated shop I think they just got some heat cycle and condensated. But the shop replaced them I was unable to locate cracks so I have a set of new headlights to send off for retro fitting

Would like to thank all of you guys for the photos and comments. Went to the shop in Friday, even the main supervisor started pointing things out before I did. They were accepting of the photos and appreciated them. I'm dropping it off next week for about a day. He apologized multiple times and said it should have never left this way and even said among other cars it looks good but next to an Audi you can see the flaws.

Thursday we will see I guess. He said it's good i waited due to it allowing parts to settle and fit in.

I had the same issue, my hood sat up high in the front and the gaps between the hood and fenders were off. When I took it in to a local body shop, he popped open the hood and on the underside of the hood itself, there are 2 black bump stops in the front with a hex head screw in the center of them. He adjusted them by hand then closed the hood.....fixed it in seconds lol. Ive never messed with it since, but Id give it a shot if I was you!

yea this isn't such the case with this one. The hood is already flush with the fenders, it's actually slightly lower than the fenders, so any more adjustment would lower the hood below the fender ridges. This was the first adjustment I attempted to fix.

I believe my hood sits a tad bit high, probably not noticeable to anyone but me. Are the adjustments on the hood itself?

I used this adjustment and got the front bumper cover flush and uniform across the front end, before the hood appeared to have an extreme overbite

Is this the adjustment to raise the bumper and close the clearance a bit ?

Bringing this post back... still can't figure out how to raise and lower the bumper to adjust the gap between the hood and grill... anyone know where the adjustment screw is?
