Thoughts on blacking out front rings / RS7

My gloss black HRE P104s are showing up Friday so I have an appt set tomorrow to do the calipers in ferrari yellow. Used this as inspiration:

Wheel shop is coordinating all of this for me using the best paint/body shop in town (Magnum Collision) only working high end insurance work. They're willing to give me a break if I want to have all my emblems done along with the calipers.
I know for sure I'd like gloss black on the rear of the car but not completely sold on doing the front rings and RS7 logo. I just don't want them to get completely lost in the grill, but it might be kind of silly to do the rear emblems, but not the front. Anyone do this with any regrets?
Just looking for opinions, I think you guys did me well last time!

I got my rings blacked out, just not on an RS7...
I think it would look really good, but I'd do the rings and the RS logo. I also did my exhaust covers and the rings on the trunk lid.

I personally would like to see the rings stay factory chrome but that's my opinion!

I would also like to add that Magnum is a fantastic body shop. My father is very good friends with Mike (owner) over there. As a family, we've had a lot of body work done there including my fathers frame-off restored "Ferrari Rosso Corso red" 1972 Oldsmobile. I also worked there for a few breaks during school. Great shop!

I had the gloss black rings that came with my black RS7 grille, and ended up switching to the OEM silver rings. I liked it better with the rings to give some contrast.
Then again, i do not have any other badging on the grille so it just looked too monotone with the black rings.

Is it ridiculous to consider just doing the black in the back, keep it chrome in the front?
I do like the contrast idea and I've never been one to be into the complete "murder look" even though my car is blue... that might not be as applicable.

I vote to black it all out. It looks way better in person than in pictures. I just did mine(not an rs7) so for reference I thought I'd post some pics. They are all gloss black and I painted my chrome exhaust tips gloss black to match. I love it and have received more compliments on the car since I did it! I didn't have a chance to remove the Quattro badge on the front grill in these pics.

My vote is both in one color. Prefer the chrome on an otherwise all black car, but I would not do one black and the other chrome. Just wouldn't look right to me.

We are always a fan of blacking everything out. That said, just do something that contrasts the grille around it. In other words satin vs. gloss.

I did black rings and black S7 badge in front.. But left the square red.

I blacked out my rear rings and left the front chrome. I originally did the front rings in black but they did get lost in the grill IMO.

Tag did my rings - black rear but nardo front (color coded with car). Nice contrast with the black grill and carbon. And they did a superb job too.

Thanks... after seeing that, I really don't hate the idea of leaving the front rings chrome/different color. It's not like you ever see both at the same time.
They also proposed being able to hydrodip everything with carbon fiber.
I have to make a decision soon as the car is at the shop. I really can't LOL

I've been going back and forth on this myself (Black A5). I've decided to black out the front and rear wings as well as my window trim. Which brings me to also swap out my S5 mirror caps for black oem ones.. ugh....

But I'd go black on both ends! Good luck!

i don't have an RS7 but my car is Ibis and the black emblems looked perfect as i have black wheels / Tint / Black Optic Package ... I think if your grille is black it takes away from the rings if you black them out. Its like the rings aren't even there anymore.. it doesn't wear its Audi name as proudly anymore.. on a black car i would rather just shaved the emblems than black them out for the rear then black out the front if that's the look you're going for ... In my opinion

yeah definitely any other color but black i all for black rings ... but on the front.. unless you are trying to do the clean look without the rings.. i would leave the front chrome .. i plasti dipped mine.. so if i didn't like it i could peel it off

We have done it several different ways - we have done quite a few that are body color'd and we have done quite a few that are just all gloss black. I personally LOVE the all gloss black look.

F150 driving is only supposed to be when it's raining outside and it's fricken beautiful out right now. Perfect for a drive up to blue ridge!

That's how my car is. I did matte black emblems rear and sides, but left the front rings chrome.

I normally HATE chrome with a passion and want it all gone, but I just never got around to trying black on my front rings. Mostly out of laziness, I think.
The front rings are not as easy to change as the rears.


I will say that until I saw this thread, most of the front ring blackout jobs I've seen didn't look good. But the pics that the guys posted in this thread look really good, actually.

Nothing with the interior yet, but we love the car. I don't get much time in it, but my wife is head over heals in love with it compared to the '15 sport edition we had.

thank you for the pics.. I'm on the fence .. every color i've seen except the silver doesn't move me.. i'm wondering if that will change when they offer a black optic type package .. so far its a no go for my wife but i'm hoping White with black trim will change her mind

You won't probably see the black optic option until the june '17 release of the SQ7. I'm definitely first in line to order one of those but the value on the 15 Q7s was dropping so quickly that I had to pull the trigger to avoid paying to get out of it. Even if the looks are slightly less than previous models, everything about the car is light years ahead of the previous models and you aren't thinking about that aluminum thing on the doors while you're driving it. For a kid hauler, I couldn't argue with it. I have my RS7 if I want to look cool. LOL

well i saw the white in person at New County Audi in Greenwich and i've seen the silver on the road.. the silver looks so amazing to me.. maybe its because the chrome accents blends in perfectly ..

We shipped our Satin Black TAG Cosmetic Package down to him about a year and a half ago along with the HRE's and the Akrapovic and it just looks stunning! Love seeing photos of this beast!

To answer your questions - we ended up taking the HRE Billet Caps and painting the centers in white :)

thanks to the guys at TAG. Front and rear rings are exactly same colour. Different cameras taking photo's under different lighting conditions.
