I knew it was in development just didn't know when it would be out. they had a car test mk7 since 2014.
the pictures looks like a mk6 though. they may just be working on the mk6 first and releasing that car initially.

if they also make it for the audi, this will fix all the tuning issues for the S3. no more flashing oops. cobb is all about everyone's individual tunes so it will be tuned for your personal car.

only the final production will give us all the definite answer though. crossing fingers.

Cobb tuning is king. Had it on my 135i and 1M. They get it right 1st time and allow multiple maps and custom tuner maps. Fantastic products.

Really miss my Cobb after jumping ship from my Subaru. So easy to get a pro tune and flash whatever you want whenever you want. They have done it right.

audi owners have missed out on a lot of great products out there. this is one of them.

what this product allows owners to do is pretty much everything.

-you can tune the car on a dyno for all the mods YOUR car has. not on some generic tune that the company like APR or Revo or what ever has made. so when you stick on that airfilter you can get that car you have actually tune for it. so that item you stuck on your car actually will be mapped for it to work.

-if you opt for a generic tune from cobb, it comes with it already when you buy the accessport. all maps are included free. any update is free to download into the a/p.

    - you install the map into the ecu via the obd2 port. no need to send out or go to a dealer. do it anywhere, home, work, or what ever. this also means if you have multiple maps on the a/p, you can switch the maps on fly if you wanted to.

there is much more to this and the flexibility made the Subaru one of the best cars to buy to modify along with a few other brands they support. the down side is they support only a few cars on the market. the first time this product came out for the Subaru people complained on how expensive it was, after looking for tuning products for the audi I have to say that the price is cheap for what that thing does. cobb literally made other tuning products for the Subaru obsolete. i can see it doing it to all those for the audi as well.

lets see if its for the audi s3.

this explains what audi has now for flashing a tune which are OTS maps.
this is why the OTS sucks. this could also be why everyone gets blown engines or turbo.
cobb has the OTS but also allows protunes where the car is on a dyno with a tuner and he will adjust and create specific maps for that particular car. no two cars are ever the same so the OTS maps try to map out the ecu to work on every car.

Sure, but there are only minor gains to be had with a custom tune over an OTS tune. Audi ECUs are far more advanced than those on Subarus and are able to adapt to modifications. I believe on many/most Subarus, you can't even change the intake without confusing the ECU. It's a completely different situation here.

By the way, there are a few tuners out there like EPL or SoloMotorsports who will do a custom tune if requested.

^ True about mods on the Subaru. You couldn't change anything without a tune. If Cobb were in our scene things would change dramatically and tuners would start popping up everywhere, everyone would have a protune no matter what our ecu's do. Everyone would like a specific tune for thier vehicle to pull that last bit of motor specific power.

Is it a game changer for the folks looking for record quarter mile runs and squeezing all the power they can out of their car due to getting a custom tune? Just wondering how it will change the game.

Ease of use, excellent customer service, huge following, thier own tuning software, no network needed for flashing, thier own parts. It was a big let down for me coming from my Subaru and Accesport to the Audi.

I agree with some of what you said but I did have a Subaru sti before and I use that as a personal example.

changing an air filter did not confuse the ecu. the problem with the ecu is that it didn't do anything with minor hardware changes like downpipe or air filters, until its mapped out/tuned for it. so there was no gain to be had with out a tune for that part.

I used Subaru as an example only but they also make a/p for the Nissan GTR and Porsche.

I am not trying to convince anyone here but to only explain something that for those who have not used it before, what it does. the best way is to actually use the product yourself.

no that's not the only reason. did you view the last video I posted up.

I tune as well and in a nut shell, the specific tune will follow proper needs for the engine rather than rich up the fueling to make it a broader map for many cars, as well as fine tune the timing. there are other things too but watch the video and that guy will explain it more. video = vinny ten racing.

if your still in doubt, call up your favorite OTS supplier and ask if a OTS map is better or a protune specific for that car set on a dyno is better? for long term?
again I'm not trying to convince you as most have their minds made up but with out trying new stuff out, your limited.

If Cobb came out tomorrow for my S4 I wouldn't look back. I would be on board and looking for a tuner quick. Screw all the other companies if it happened.

I dunno, it sounds more incremental than game changing, but lets say a custom tune brought 50 more HP/ft-lbs, kept the same or better engine safety, and drive-ability, I would say that would be a dominate option if it didn't cost too much more.

I know the over-the-shelf tunes are not ideal, but they are pretty good. I would love to see an option significantly improve on what we have today though, just not sure it will be that much better, I'm somewhat pessimistic sometimes though.

Was super excited when I saw this post. The Pro/Custom Tunes using the AccessPort for the EcoBoost Mustang yield phenomenal results! Maybe if we flood their inbox we can push them on R&D for our cars...

I sent something out asking the best way for us to show that there is enough interest in the access port for our platform. Maybe we can somehow petition them into starting the R&D for the MBQ....
It doesn't hurt to try either way.....

    Hi John,

Thanks for contacting COBB Support! At the moment, our March 22nd release will be for the MK6 GTI only. We have plans to make parts and components for the MK7 GTI and then later on the MK6 R and MK7 R.

I imagine the platform will be close to identical to the pieces on the S3/Golf R ECU's so we'll explore that option when we get there with our research and development. It's certainly in discussion already.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Other S3 owners are welcome to reach out to us as well to show their support :)

    Thank you,

I sent them an email yesterday as well, no reply yet...I am also planning to run by their Plano shop and chat with them in person. This would definitely be a coup for the 8v platform! The AP in the hands of a competent tuner(see Tune+ and what he is doing with the ecoboost platform) will make our already great platform even better! Until then I will stick with the Neuspeed PM(not ideal)...

Email has been sent! It wouldn't make any sense for them not to release a tune for the S3 if they are going to put in the R&D for the MK7 R.

Well it's not looking good for anything in the near future, but I am keeping my fingers crossed! I stopped by their Plano location today and let them know there is interest in Cobb supporting the S3 with the AP platform, but as of now they are focused on the older VW stuff and they reiterated the difficulties of German encryption. They told me most of the R&D happens in Austin, so next time I am down that way I will hit those guys up too.

From talking to the Plano guys it sounds like we will need to get as much ground swell as possible to let them know we want Cobb as a tuning option, so keep the emails going to them!

Here is the response I received to my email:

    Hi T*****,
Thanks for contacting COBB Support! Thanks for you input and interest in our products! While our initial release will be specifically for VW, we will certainly consider supporting Audi platforms or other platforms in the future. Nothing is set in stone, but it's certainly up for discussion.

I'll keep you in our records in case we need your S3 to looks at :)
Let me know if you have any questions!

    Thank you,
    Charles

Nothing to take away from Cobb but anything big power (500+) should consider a complete stand alone unit or a PnP unit from Syvecs or Motec. I'm a big fan of 1/2 mile races and the stock OEM DSG gear ratios will ran-out of breath for these kinds of events. It needs to be widen to stretch and utilize the horsepower spread. Also, we can't deny one important fact and that is these motors are under-squared (rpm limited) BUT the advantage is torque and torque is hard on drivetrain parts. If the axles starts breaking along with other drivetrain parts then you know you're making good power/torque and traction. I would contact John Shepherd of Sheptrans and DSS if that ever happens. For now, I will wait and enjoy my locked ecu S3 until my warranty expires. I'll wait what AMS has in store for this platform.

There's a more recent thread in here going. No official release, apparently some guys are beta testing it to include some protuners etc. Cobb has been pretty tight lipped about it apparently and even as of a month ago were telling people no plans to support Audi.

we all need to contact them and ask. it lets them know there are interest in the product.

i did contact them and its hidden but what was said is to keep an eye out for news about it soon. about a week or so but less than a month out for news about it.

    im buying one for sure.

our cars are going to be able to get huge modification options with this platform. we are NOT locked into anything a predefined tuning map is made for.
