Cheapest Windows laptop for VagCom, Unitronic, etc?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I rely on mac desktop systems to make a living but occasionally need a portable windows system for random tasks like in the thread title.
What's the cheapest laptop I can pick up that will work for this simple kind of stuff?
I'd rather buy new if I can. The less I have to dick with it the better.
I would guess my only real requirements are it being able to run the correct OS, having the correct connection ports, and being able to connect to my wifi.
    Suggestions?

Please give a review of Unitronic if you do!

I keep this tablet in the car for VCDS when away from home. It can charge with a cig lighter cord, so that helps over a laptop.

When home though, I still bring my laptop out because it's easier using a keyboard than a touchscreen.

To run VCDS or performing ECU software changes, it does not take much computing power. Check out BestBuy. They have several new laptops well under $199. I missed a really solid one last week for $149.

I got a decent re-furbed Dell on Newegg a couple weeks ago for $190. It's got an SSD and really flies!

I too just bought a re-furbished Dell off of Newegg with a SSD. Haven't used it much but it was a great deal.

I use the ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF for this. I'm sure there are better/cheaper ones now.

How's the actual performance on this thing? That's a great price for a garage computer.

It works fine for VCDS. I didn't notice any lag moving through the options.

You don't need anything more than even a 4-5 year old refurbed laptop to run simple tuning software and chrome for your DIYs.

I still use a 12-year old HP laptop for Vag work, but gonna have to replace it at it won't run anything above WinXP.

So is usb pretty much all you every need?
And can these tablet things run regular software? I'm used to the apple ipads where you have to run "apps" instead.
Ideally I'd like to keep it down to around $100 or less if possible. $150 max. It's just not something I will use often enough to justify the cost.

I've thought about running bootcamp on my old mac laptop but concerned with compatibility/stability issues, especially while connected to my car.
Is anyone doing it this way?

If the tablet has windows 10, you can run any app on it. (within reason)
