Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi folks.

First post here I have a 2015 A4 with a four spoke multi function wheel but purchased a 3 spoke flat bottom wheel. The Airbag seems to be working as in I have no warning lights but the buttons on my new wheel will not work.

    http://s296.photobucket.com/user/MALACHY1979/media/20150610_185947.jpg.html?filters[user]=68703287&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=48

    Any ideas??

Not true, I didn't have my paddles working for a couple months until I coded those but all the buttons worked for menus, scrolling, voice, etc. as soon as I plugged it in. Unfortunately for @Malachy I don't have any suggestions. This was fairly straightforward plug and play for me.

Where did you purchase this steering wheel?

I had the same issue first time I changed my wheel in my 2010 S4 years ago...did you disconnect the battery when doing the swap? If not try that it worked for me.

This is first thing I would look at. If your wheel matches the B8.5 style buttons it should be plug and play. But if your wheel is from A3, TT, etc. models then it's not as straightforward. If you do have the right wheel and you've confirmed that connectors are all tight, the next steps would probably be to pull it off and start checking with a multimeter whether there is a short in the wheel or something.

can you take a pic of your old and new steering wheel? If the buttons aren't the same. You might need to swap them.

when i removed my airbag to install my new paddles i accidentally tore the wires to the buttons. Didn't even notice until i had the bags back on and tried to operate them. Try checking that path

    OP, did you get the correct B8.5 style FBSW? The buttons from an A6 4G / A7 / A1 / A3 will not work in the B8 / B8.5.

I'm not sure that's out of a B8.5... Mine isn't a FBSW but it is the regular sports one and it looks like this:

Side note, I have a B8.5 with a standard OEM 4 spoke steering wheel. I love the looks of the three spokes and flat bottoms. Is it worth the money down the road? I'm going to be putting money into this car that I will never see again but I want to go performance over looks...first...

My plan was to keep my 4 spoke and put it back in the car once I trade up in 2 years time, the flat bottom feels brilliant. .

OP, you got the wrong wheel. That's for the newer stil MMI, which can also scroll sideways, found in the new A1/A3/A6/A7, etc. You can't get those buttons to work in your car, so the only option is to swap them for the proper B8.5 buttons. I have a set I can part with here in Finland that I bought by mistake (thought I was buying a complete FBSW on ebay.de) PM me if you're interested.

The FBSW in my 2015 A4 SLine is the single most appreciated change from my last A4 that had the standard A4 wheel from 2009. Considering the cost of the Sline upgrade on these cars, I wouldn't think twice about recommending that option to a prospective buyer.

I greatly, greatly prefer the sport package 3-spoke in my current car over the 4-spoke that my B8 had. Highly recommend it, and the sport package generally is on my list of must-have mods if I were to buy another B8/B8.5.

You got the wrong wheel, it does look like an A3 version as stated by @tekmo. Maybe Alex @ Europrice can work up an adapter?

FBSW is definitely in my top 3 favorite updates. It's thick as hell, grips awesome, adds the paddles for increased responce and looks amazing.

You can swap out the buttons. The buttons from a standard 3-spoke will fit, but the OP originally had a 4-spoke and the buttons on that are different.

+1. The guy I bought my FBSW from told me he had to order different buttons that would work for my 2011. He swapped them out before shipping it to me, everything worked perfectly when the wheel was installed.

I haven't tried it myself but here is a thread from the B8.5 S4 forum with a very nice write up and lots of pictures:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...placement-B8-5

The buttons on that FBSW shown in the pics at the end look just like the ones I have and it all works as it should (except the nav button does nothing on mine since I don't have nav).

The buttons that does not sit in the wheel already should work for your b8(.5). And for the airbag cant really see if its a 1 stage or 2 stage airbag. If its the airbag that sat in the wheel from the beginning it probably is a 1 stage and wont work.

@endy1 here is a better pic of the backside of my bag. I've since realized that the 8U part number is just for the wire harness on the bag, not the bag assembly.

surprisingly those other buttons don't work (myself and everyone else expected them to?)

    still stumped!???
