2015 A3: A very strong jerk when accelerating from full stop?

Hello, I have a 1.8 FWD 2015 Audi A3 and when I try to accelerate quickly from a stop, there is a very noticeable "jerk" along the way. For example, just today I was stopped but needed to move over left one lane and accelerate quickly to keep pace with traffic coming up behind me. I release my brake, turn to the left, and floor the gas pedal (all the way past the "downshift notch" at the bottom). While I'm accelerating, there is at least one very heavy jerking motion - my passenger even noticed and asked if this was normal.

Does anyone else get this behavior? Am I only supposed to press down on the pedal more lightly/slowly? It seems like flooring the pedal from a stop should have digital/computer "assistance" in shifting properly such that there are no major jerks. I don't ever remember such jerky behavior from any other cars I've driven while flooring the pedal.

Sorry for the addition, but I just remembered - sometimes the tires will "slip" and appear to lose traction slightly when I floor it - is this supposed to happen? Is this the traction control kicking in?

I think by "jerk" you're referring to wheel hop. I have a 1.8TFSI fwd too, and I've never experienced wheel hop so bad before on any fwd car I've had.

Wheel hop should be prevented with traction control, but happens anyways. At least in my A3 s-line 1.8TFSI

I guess at 180tq is too much, but I don't think excessive wheelhop should be acceptable in an Audi

Can you elaborate on the jerk? How fast were you going when it happened? Was it the car shifting?

Also, wheelspin is not surprising since your car is FWD. Traction control should kick in when it happens.

I see, well it's some small solace that other people are experiencing this too I suppose. Totally agree with the last line. So how do you deal with it? I guess we just press on the gas pedal more slowly?

I will pay more attention and make a note of these (if the car is shifting during the jerk, how fast the car's moving) the next time I get a chance to recreate this. And gotcha about the wheelspin, I guess it's just another reason I shouldn't floor the gas from a dead stop. Went with the FWD since it basically never snows down here and the price drop was nice. Sucks that this happens.

    .
I think you need to modulate the throttle, and stop pressing down when you start to feel the wheel hop

Fixing wheel hop is on my to-do mod list

Makes sense. Good luck with that! If it works out well, do come back and let us know!

Can u explain the jerk like it wheelhop or shudder? did u full WOT wen changing lane, as sometime A3 1.8T fwd do wheel hop even on traction control ON if the traction/ESC OFF its worse. It happened with me too but from full stop wen i pressed the accelerator full, i dont do full WOT now just play with your throttle lil bit to n let the gear change at 4 or 5k rpm. BTW is your A3 1.8TFSI 7spd dsg?

Felt like a big jerking motion back and forth, the whole car sort of rocked forward and backward. Yep, I did a full WOT from basically a full stop. Yeah, looks like we can't do WOT anymore unless we want some nasty wheelhop. My 1.8 FWD A3 is a US-spec, which I believe is a 6-speed DSG.
