Alcantara headliner and black interior? You have to get some interior shots, I couldn't justify the cost of Alcantara, but the little bit in the S6 has made me fall in love with it. Next time I'm getting the headliner :D.

the new q7 isn't winning any beauty contests in my opinion and is in desperate need of an s-line package to spruce it up sadly none slated for the US. i have a feeling it will get an early refresh but that is just my own speculation.
Sorry I meant 2015 which are still floating on dealer lots

true. i have seen several plain jane or moderately optioned Q7 still available. so if the sales person says "people are asking to order a 2015 new" he can sell them one of the leftovers on the lot and then they wouldn't be there anymore. so not sure what the problem is.

Yeah. It's for my wife and I figured the driver assist package was a must (or why even upgrade?) and the only one they could find in black had the luxury package and was located in Florida. They said I should have it at my house by Friday night when my rep gets off.

After comparing the two side by side, the new Q7 is shaped much sportier--two people at work mentioned it looked like a more compact Range Rover sport, which I actually like the look of. Almost a little surprising there's a third row in there. Not much leg room, but I wouldn't own one of these if I didn't have three kids. My 2015 looks much bigger and longer... More of the brute style. Huge difference in feel.

This isn't my car.,, just the loaner

I haven't bought one yet, got it as a loaner with my RS7 in for service and tune. I'm going to have him look for one close to my desired configuration. There is no contest between these two vehicles. Especially once you get inside and drive it. It's a massive difference all around.

Agree to disagree. My 2014 S-Line with Black Optic looks wayyyy better to my eyes than the new Q7. The new one looks like a boring wagon. Mine has some more presence on the road and looks far more muscular.

No contest on the interior though, the new one is way better.

it looks more like a new touareg than an RRS or Q7.
IMO i think it's the touareg crossblue concept in production.

    That's fair.
I don't really see wagon in the picture I posted... Plus I have the same car as you except more badass with the fender flares :P
I was one of the first vocal haters of this redesign when I saw the photos. This is kind of typical with redesigns-- anger and then gradual acceptance. It takes awhile.
Even if I liked the old design a lot better--let's call it a draw for me--everything about the new one is way better and I don't buy a car to look at it. Especially when the only time I'm in it is driving a car full of kids an hour away to a travel baseball tournament.

I have an RS7 in Nogaro Blue if I want to look cool. This Q7 is the ultimate kid hauler.

I see similarities but more aggressive lines on the Q.

the overall shape and style i think is quite similar and with audi scrapping the original design last minute i think they dusted this off and said okay let's make it more audi'ish. just my theory i don't know for sure.

the original touareg and t2 were great i loved them... i even owned a v10 tdi but the 2011+ was/is a huge POS.

Big factor for me was how quickly the 15 values seem to be dropping. 3 weeks ago they would have listed my Q7 (needs tires) at 62 and offered me around 55. Now they'll be happy for 55 and they're giving me 49.

Getting an 80,700 sticker for 78,900 so they aren't moving much on these either. I've always gotten much better deals.

The technology is just too awesome for me to justify sticking around. Finally used adaptive cruise in my RS on the single lane roads in the mountains with traffic and it made it so easy. I couldn't stop talking about it the whole trip. My car doesn't even have half the amount of new assistance technology--and for my wife, who isn't probably the best driver, I have extra peace of mind. She could have used pre-sense breaking on her last little fender bender..,,,,,,

I just came back from the dealer to check out the 2017 with a year left on my 2014 TDI lease. My take away:

    1. The 2017 interior and tech is very nice. The navi is much, much snappier and the larger screen is appreciated.
    2. I want a TDI. Bring in a TDI!
    3. Storage space is much, much less on the 2017 compared to my 2014. There is no drawer under the passenger seat, the center console is much smaller, and the door pockets are probably half the size of the 2014
    4. The interior is very nice in the 2017
    5. I'm still mixed on the exterior. The 2014 is swoopier, cleaner and yet a bit more brutish, and I found the angular nature of the 2017 a bit off-putting still.
    6. I think the 2017 is a bit roomier. The front-seat headroom is about the same, but my wife says I have about an inch or more additional room between my knee and the dash. I'm not sure if it is quite that much, but it felt that way.
    7. It is nice to have 2- cup holders that are actually usable and accessible, but they are smaller than the armrest cup holders on the 2014. I'm not sure they will be big enough to hold my travel mug. I'll have to try that.
    8. The tech on the 2017 is a nice improvement. The touch pad, placement of the interactive bits, and especially all the display controls for the driver info display in one place rather than two is really appreciated and more sensible and cleaner. Having stop-and-go cruse control is very nice.
    9. While I really like the interior, I'm not sure yet how I feel about the vents going all the way across the dash.

So, for those who have tried the 2017 and compared to earlier or have swapped out an earlier for a 2017, what do you think?

+1. Until there's a black optics pack and more wheel design options available, the new Q7 will never come close to the outgoing Q7 for "presence" and that classy, masculine look.
