    Exclamation C6 Battery Coding Question.

Hi everyone i just got my vehicle back from the dealership. I am assuming they didn't charge it they had it for over 10 days. The car cranked quite a bit for a while before it started the battery percentage was 20% but it charged up to 100% under an hour. I did a VCDS scan this is the only thing that concerns me i am wondering if the battery needs to be coded or not. I don't know if it was every coded but i never had issues with it. If these codes are the result from being at a low voltage than that's a good thing . Does any know how to check if the battery is coded on a 2007 AUDI A6

    C6 Battery Coding Question.

If the battery wasn't changed, then no need to recode it. Most likely the faults you are seeing are a result of the power drain. Clear them and see if they return. My suspicion is they won't.
A tell tale sign the battery is not registered with the car is if you get a message "battery level low. Will recharge while driving" if you get this after putting in a new battery then you need to code it.

Thanks sin I never saw that sign in my life and the battery was replaced in 2014 February from the original factory battery. I was told it is a Volkswagen battery and that they're the same as Audi part. Is it normal for this car to not have any charge in battery if not driven for more than a week?

The battery charge indicator on MMI is not really accurate so don't worry about the 20%. The codes Quiescent Current Stage 1 & 2 are battery drain codes and go up to 6. I would check the battery with voltmeter to just make sure the battery is good.

i have VCDS software can't i test the battery with that? I will test the battery with a volt meter tomorrow at the garage as well thanks for your input. The car battery was not coded properly since it was replaced and i coded it right but it still has shut off on me twice... I drove it for 60 miles at 70 mph average today to charge up... If it doesn't start in the morning i'll know

Theoretically, the power management module that is connected to the positive terminal of the battery will regulate charge/discharge of the battery. When the battery drains to a certain level, the system will start shutting down various components to keep the battery from draining, but it will go dead if there is a power draw. The other day, while messing around with my new HEX-NET VCDS module from Ross-Tech and installing my new dash cam, I drained the battery in my car to the point it would not crank over. Total time; approx. 2 hours.

With VCDS, you can monitor battery charge levels and charging system output, but I don't think it will test the battery to see if there in an internal issue (bad cell, etc.)

Ok I had it tested yesterday at advance auto parts. They directly hooked the machine that check the cold cranking Amps and battery volts in the trunk. The battery stated it was good. I drove the car for 150 miles. 3 hours and turned it off and five mins later turned it on and it hesitates to start with the same symptoms. I see i will double check it with another mechanic to make sure if the battery is good or bad. Is it common for a battery to just die pretty much after 22 months? it's an original Varta battery...

Were you able to charge your battery up by just driving it for a while? Should I check the alternator as well?

The car is was hesitant to start just now and the HVAC error is new I am not sure but I think it is related to the car having a hard time starting because this error was nonexistent. In fact the only thing that had a fault code was the Control Head in which I have turned off the TPMS sensor. I am inclined to believe the battery probably dying.. I won't get a second opinion till Monday unless I can find a local shop that’s open on a Sunday that’s not auto zone. The dealer had this car for a long time prior to the ten days more like 3 weeks and when I got it back it was doing this I drove it around for a while it stopped. The second time I get it back after 10 days the problem will not go away. I drove the freaking hell outta this car in the first snow we got here and it still did not solved the hesitant start issue it just cranks really hard then starts. 7 out of 10 times it will start. Could be the alternator? And is the alternator the same thing as the starter motor? Just looking at the long picture here in case I’m f$%^&*d
And if the battery is bad do you recommend buying this? Or do you recommend something else. Thank you

it's very straight forward that link is also very helpful much appreciated. I know it says after market battery can cause electrical issues but i have been reading posts on the forums some people don't have any issues with an autozone or walmart battery but if the original is a must i can do that the price is the same anyways.

I installed a new battery and the car did crank a bit extra but starts fine. The old battery stated it was good but wasn't holding a charge i assume. If it won't start anytime soon I'll know it was not the battery but so far changing the battery has solved the issue. I did not get a chance to drive it on the high way for a long time but i will take it out on Sunday give it a nice run and see if i experience any issues at all further. Apparently Audi batteries can go bad in 22 months....

Audi OEM batteries now have a 4 yr, full replacement warranty (no prorate.) From my research, that beats any aftermarket battery warranty, they are competitively priced, and there is no issue with recoding VAG COM.

Bringing this back up. I just put as new battery in my car. It's an Autocraft H8 AGM from Advance. So I have 2 questions. The battery has no codes of any kind written on it. If I were to enter codes, would I just try to find any similar codes for a 950CCA AGM battery? Also, how do I enter the codes? Do you have to have a VAGCOM? I looked through the MMI and didn't see anything. Maybe I didn't look in the right place?
