I've had all sorts of shades of black wheels on various cars. I've had super glossy black, satin black, matte black, black metallic, etc. In all cases, my wheels have either been dipped or painted. I never had issues with scratches in my super glossy black wheels, but I did have a lot of issues with rock chips. The design on that particular wheel made them very vulnerable to rock chips. Even with 8+ coats of clear enamel on them, they still chipped to all hell. Also, those wheels were actually very easy to keep clean. I don't know why everyone says gloss black is hard to keep clean. If anything, they're way easier to keep clean than Satin or Matte, at least in my experience. That could have something to do with the fact that my satin and matte finishes have been plastidip, and my glossy and metallic finishes were enamel based paints.
