    245/45R18 vs 245/40R/18

My 2013 A4 has 245/40R/18 tires. I'm looking at getting a used set of A2 Sport rims with Blizzak 245/45/18 tires for winter. I'm aware of the increase in tire size, but would these be too big and will they rub? I have another set of Nokian winters that are 40R, so I could always have those put on the A2 rims. Basically, I just want a 2nd set up rims/tires for winter so I don't have to heep peeling tires off audi rims 2x a year.

I rock 245/45/18 with no problems. At least with stock ride height. I lowered my car in the spring, and haven't installed the winter wheels yet.

To keep your overall tire diameter within 3% I would go with a 235/45/18. Google tire size calculator.

Any reason to stay within 3% other than incorrect speedometer reading?

The diameter difference is 25mm or about 1". This might be a problem if the original spare had to be used on a quattro model. I can't find the original reference I saw with Audi's recommended max tread wear difference, but this would certainly be greater. Perhaps not an issue for a short drive?

I guess it depends on the person.

I'm very close to 3% off on my current setup and I don't even notice the incorrect speedo because its such a small difference. Tire calculators say its off by 1.3mph at 60mph. 1.3mph = not a big deal in my book.
