Yeah I don't know why I recommended them lol. I took my car there once to get my tune reflashed and the owner was giving me shit about being so low. He's a prick. I forgot all about that until you mentioned they weren't recommended.

x2 for Sprint Motorworks. JHM is amazing but they are pretty far, depends on what you want to have done though.

I had a super awkward situation with them just a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure they do great work and are knowledgeable but customer service and etiquette is not in their vocabulary.

Burlingame Independent...tried some other Euro shops on the Peninsula and they are the best

Shops not to go to:

European Car Service - San Bruno...charged me $600 for new but used wiring harness, told me car was good to go, still severe misfiring when I took it out of the parking, took to B.I. who diagnosed quickly as cracked head

Das Auto - Daly City....owner is really nice, even paid for a rental car for me when they fucked up my repair and it was closing time but they are just a regular half assed shop fronting as a Euro shop b/c he was a parts manager at a VW dealership

European Car Care - San Mateo...had my car for a few hours to pressure test the cooling system, found no issues and charged me $60 for it. Not outrageous but B.I. hasn't charged me for anything like this ever. Also, the owner/mechanic (only guy there) was wearing headphones. Seemed very unprofessional.

Euro Quattro - Mountain View....I'm mixed with them, was the first shop I ever took my Audi to b/c of great reviews. Das Auto is the one who discovered that my water pump for EQ was a rebuilt unit instead of an updated new one when it prematurely failed....well maybe not prematurely, cooling system was creating lots of back pressure due to cracked head which caused a shit ton of cooling system problems.

+1 on 034. I've used them for performance upgrades as well as standard maintenance on my B8 A4 and performance upgrades on the S3. Everyone is always super friendly and ridiculously knowledgable about Audi/VW/Porsche. Suchon and Adil in the service department are awesome.

Burlingame Independant rocks. Jim March and his boys are very honest and prices are very reasonable. They are not great with performance bolt-ons and such, but for all standard non-aftermarket work, they are solid!

I tried to use Burlingame Independant when I first moved out here (Jan 15) for a coolant sensor problem. They stated "you have a nice track car for out here but we can't work on it for insurance purposes". Even with a valid NJ inspection sticker, registration and plates... To back up what Blai76 said ^^^ but they seemed legit.

The closest ones to you based off the list of recommended shops in the first post would be Burlingame Independent or Tomas Sport Tuning. The next closest ones after those would be Sprint Autoworks and 034.

Just bought a 2019 SQ5. I'm based in the south bay (Santa Clara) and curious what mechanic shops people would recommend down here. This thread is pretty old; some of the shops no longer seem to be in business. Any recommendations? I'm not looking to do anything fancy, just handle routine maintenance without having to pay dealer prices.

lol I had a friend who had parts shipped to them for his build and while waiting for his install appointment, they used his parts on another car. It was only discovered after this friend was tired of waiting and demanded to pick up his parts, they had to order parts again for him to replace the parts they took.

I like Precision Motorworks in Santa Clara. And if you go in there, tell them I sent you and use "AZKS" and they'll give you a 12% discount on labor.
They just did my front upper/lower control arms and an alignment. They have done my APR tune for a few years and they also replaced my shifter linkage when that broke. They do lots of custom work too. This week they had an R8 V10 they were supercharging and were also doing a lot of customer work on a Ferrari 458. They don't look high end, but the quality of the work they do is good. They also do ceramic coatings and more.

Bumping this thread a bit as its pretty old. Anyone have a rec for shops close to SF? Looking to get my timing chain and tensioner done and my regular mechanic doesn't want to do the job.
