Getting ready to do my front wheel bearings and wanted to check to make sure this tool set will be adequate for the job.

Bought a pair of 82mm, SKF bearings from Europaparts (SKU 000606). Does that mean I need an 82mm drift, which this kit does not seem to have?

    Package Contents:
    Steel Drifts 38mm
    Drift sizes - (55.5, 59, 62, 65, 66, 71.5, 73, 78, 84, 86, 91mm)
    Hub Screws
    3PC M12 x 1.5mm
    3PC M14 x 1.5mm
    C-76mm

Best bet is to take the hub assembly to a shop and have them press the new one in.
What ever makes sense go with the opposite and you got it

I'd prefer to do the job myself.

Separating the bearing off the hub is going to be the hardest part.

That is what you will be dealing with. The kit doesn't work with it like that. The kit will work for the rear bearings but not the front. I could be wrong but I think the way the front hub is assembled you have to actually press it out and back in.

Did several front and backs on my B5's. I'm very skeptical you'll press those out, then back in, with just a bolt type press. My buddy has a 20 ton press, and sometimes I needed all it had to move those bearings.

Also, you don't need an 82mm drift. I had a galvanized pipe coupling I used that worked fine. Any pipe casting that's about that side will work.

I've done it numerous times with the harbor freight model. 100 dollars. Pretty good and easy to use.

No, harbor freight front just call them up or go online look up wheel bearing press.

The rear you need ECS tuning's bearing press. There's TWO different ones that carry. You need to make sure the one you're looking at is the one that is applicable to the REAR made by schwabben. It was a pain in the ass to search for on their site. Better off calling them.

    It's always on backorder.

Removing is the difficult part of the swap and is a process separate from that of replacing.

Whether pressing with the portable tool or a bench press, you need the proper fitting caps and barrel fixtures.

With the kits, it helps to have an impact wrench, but not necessary. If you do, you need to be careful not to over torque the bearings on - especially the fronts.

With the schwaben rear kit you can remove and reapply. The front is a different story and the harbor freight kit only is made for the application of the bearing. Unless you have a bench press with proper fixtures you'll have to get creative for the front bearing removal. If anyone needs help regarding this part of the front bearing removal off the hub let me know. I used the axle bolt and a two prong gear puller...see if you can figure it out. After that you're still left with a sleeve that is part of the bearing and has to be "walked" off the hub shaft. There's a little ring that is below it that is there to keep dust out of the bearing, you don't want to remove or damage it unless you buy an skf(OE, but I've seen some with meyle) bearing kit - usually comes with hardware and that little ring.

Really, you have to ask yourself if you have an afternoon and how many times you're going to do this owning your a4 to justify buying the tools. Most people are better just paying an inde mech.

Skf, *** and meyle bearings last a long time and most of you will only need to change once.

Above the bearing brand F A G was censored.
The ecs part# fir the rear bearing puller is ES#2561175. Also has a video
