S4 door lights....yay or nay?

Saw these on another site so I had to grab em for around $10. Thoughts?

For $10 I would not have been able to resist either. I'm surprised at the brightness and clarity of the projection.

I've always liked them. Looks good. This is the only thing I didn't like from the product description.

Life time free logo chip replacement: Logo chips may lose color sharpness caused by high temperature in car. The life span may varies from 3 to 6 months. Parking in covered area in day time will have it stay sharp longer _

I have this mod as well but the Audi logo one.

The KingCK one that I have is surprisingly well engineered. The housing is metal and much more substanstial than the stock housings. You can also switch out the emblem you are projecting.

I have the 4 rings + Audi logo installed on the front doors. People are always amazed at the light and ask me where I get them.

I get complimented on mine all the time but as was stated earlier they do fade over time:

Have had them for ~6mnths and fronts are getting dimmer. Replacement "chips" are free w/a modest shipping charge

i used to think they looked tacky but they are definitely growing on me, i may just collapse and grab them. if i keep my car. also if i did, i would also get them for all 4 doors.

I considered the Audi rings or something for the door puddle as well, but ended up just getting regular LED bulbs. Seemed a bit tacky to me after looking at them for a while. Do what you want though, just my opinion.

These are really starting to grow on me. I previously said they were tacky in a thread months back, but I'm really starting to like the, now. Maybe I'll grab a set for all the doors at some point.

They are very cool, but they do tend to fade pretty quickly with use so keep that in mind.

^^ Key if you ever do long time work on your cars with the doors open is to unplug them. I initially had the Audi IV Rings installed but when I had my windows tinted, they seemed to have faded and blurred, likely due to heat.

Good advice. I will do in the future but likely lost a lot of life over the 3 months the bodyshop was working on my ride

- lot of damage to front passenger interior from break in

How do you install these if you don't have them already. Mine has the spot where they'd go but no lamp. Can I dremel out the area and install. Any DIY available?

It's like $15 and replaces the whole unit, there is no need for DIY, as it's plug and play.

As far as the fading is concerned, it's the "chip" that's used in the light that is made of a thin printed plastic. The heat of the led seems to eventually deteriorate the image on the chip so that it is not as sharp. As such you need to eventually replace the chip. No big deal really.

And for the perspective of others, I have had more comments from random people on the lights saying that they liked them than one any one other change to the vehicle (with the strange tow-hook plate holder being a close second).
For what it's worth, I like the way it looks, and that's all that matters to me.

Looks like these are now a dealer option for the new q7. i know bmw has them as a factory option also.

What inserts come with the amazon item (Link above)? I didn't see anywhere to specify what logo comes with. Or do you get a code to redeem them from Wind & Fire afterwards?

They are super easy to install. Just use a trim tool or a flathead to remove the existing light, or a cover in your case, and connect. Slap it back in and you're done.

Btw, why don't you have a lamp there? Aren't these lights standard on every Audis?

UPDATE... I had gotten 4 of these lights, one for each door. I ended up taking out the rear ones this weekend. They rattled like crazy for the past few weeks, seems like the light unit inside just loosens up and you near a nasty rattle on acceleration. I took them out, rattle gone. Front door lights are fine so far, no rattle, but the rear ones look like they lasted about 6 months before they had to go. I guess for $7 a light shipped, can't expect that much more.

doesn't sound normal. Mine are so tight they "pop" out when I pry on them. No issues here.

I have the same problem. Rear lights rattle under low rpm acceleration when drone is highest in my car with AWE exhaust. Front ones are fine.

It has to do with the way the light is constructed. The rattlings is due to components within the fixture not being tight. It doesn't have anything to do with the way its affixed to the door.

Here's mine. I thought it was slightly cheesy also but I said fuck it why not. I'll switch back to LED's if they suck but they're still on the car. Cheap, easy install, no rattles, good fitment. Pleased so far
