$6300 Canadian to repair this. Needs the sensor / harness and I believe he said some sort of pump?Service guy say around $3000 in parts and another 3000 in labour. Does this sound about right. Car is 2011 s4 with 72000 kilometres on it.. Service guy says he has only seen this happen once before. I phoned Audi Canada but haven't had a response from them. I am out of my warranty. I will never own another luxury car without warranty again. I think transmission parts should last longer than this. This SUCKS.

Damn man that sucks. Keep hammering Audi Canada about it, every hour if you have to!

When I got my S4 it had around 45k miles on it. I got a warranty just to be on the safe side and it saved me $800 a month later >< Hope Audi of Canada does something for you :\

European cars are only as good as their warranty...Unless you got money to blow! Luckily I paid for the extended warranty, I've had over 8K in warranty work done to my car.

That part and repair price seems wacky high...get another estimate, but looking at the diagram of the DSG, the "Drive Position Sensor G676" is part of an internal "Module PWB #3", which may need significant disassembly of the transmission to remove and replace it. See page 37 of the VWUSA.COM_SSP_990193_2009-10 Audi New Technology.pdf. Do a google to find a copy of this PDF document.

The pump has nothing to do with the Drive Position sensor. This sensor just tells the transmission computer what the position is of the shift lever (P, R, N, D, S...).

    What are your trouble symptoms?

Seems like you just need the mechatronics harness that comes with the sensor made into it and you will be good to go.

Symptoms were the gearbox malfunction light came on first. Next parking brake light followed by loss of power had to shut off car then return to park and then restart car. They claim it is 20 hrs in labour cost to dismantle my transmission. Audi Canada phoned today left a message saying they are still processing claim. I'm not to hopeful on that front.

Bump. Having exact combination of issues here. Gearbox malfunction while driving around... Parking Brake malfunction while sitting at stoplights in D with foot on the brake. Can't move forward without shifting into P and then D. Haven't brought it to the dealer yet.

EDIT: OP, what happened in the end?

    HI,

I was having same problem, with Gearbox malfuction with limited drive.

For me, after the message comes on car just shuts off itself.
The TCU thinks that I'm in Drive mode even though the shift is in Park, so I can't start the car. I have to use vag-com and erase faulty codes 6~7 and try to restart the car.

I'm getting it fixed next week at an independant transmission shop.
I will let you know how long it takes to fix the problem.
I can't tell you the total cost becuase I'm in South Korea and part and labor price is different. But the tech told me it's around 1,000~ 1,500 bucks in US dollars.

Below is the faulty codes fromvag-com.

    Update.

I have done the sensor replacement.

You have to bring down the trasmission and dismantle it. The sensor is inside the transmission.
Part is about $400 but labor was $1600 for me here in Korea. (At a local trasmission shop) Also did cleaning for $75.
It's about 24hrs job. My car was in the shop for 4 days.

The tech also recommended me to change spatronic? Forgot the spelling, but the part cost was another $700ish and I didn't want to spent that much again. Anyway fingers crossed that the recommended part doesn't go wrong.

I have just got my car today, so I will report back in a week or so.
